Month: December 2014

Since I have been attending a few holiday parties lately, I have noticed my high heel collection was looking a little sad. Some of my pumps are looking a little beat up. It is time to invest in a new pair and with perfect timing with the holidays finally here! I am swooning over this simple and classic heel from Club Monaco, because nothing screams “Maggie” like a bow heel!

For the past few days I have been listening, non-stop, to The Lively Show.  The voice behind the inspirational podcast is the adorable Austin, Texas based, Jess Lively. All about living with intention and purpose, Jess talks about career, relationships, self-image, fashion, and wellness. Each podcast is a different topic with a different interviewee or Lively herself. Each podcast I have been completely enthralled by. It has been really inspiring and a breath of fresh-air to know other people are going through the same struggles. Each podcast I can honestly relate to, even if the topic is about motherhood, there is still something I can connect with. They have really helped me out in certain areas of my life. Although the topics are different the meaning of each podcast is to live your life. Getting through the struggles, Lively gives advice on how to find your bliss in the ordinary. Besides her influential and always entertaining podcast, she offers one-on-one life coaching sessions. I would love to someday be a guest on her program, would be a dream, or maybe start my own series of podcast…although mine would probably start off like “I saw the dress of my dreams” or “my awkward encounters, ’tis my life.” Who knows what I would really talk about, but this is now a new goal of mine.

This past weekend as I was perusing my closet for something to wear to the holiday party I was attending that night, I realized all of my cocktail dresses were mostly black. I know black is an easy, chic option and you can always sparkle it up with accessories, but I was in the mood for a more festive, vibrant look. What I really wanted to wear was a red dress. I have a few throw on summer dresses that are red, but none for winter. Now I am out shopping for a red hot dress to wear to my next holiday soirée. I have my eye on this Camilyn Beth dress, the subtle bows on the gathering of the sleeves is the right amount of detail and gives it a feminine look. The detailing in this floral dress by Laundry is stunning as well. This fit and flare dress from Anthropologie is a little low cut for me, but I think the rest of the structure of the dress gives it a classier look. I read in a review where someone wrote it reminded them of a tulip–thought that was a lovely way to describe it. And of course you can never go wrong with the iconic DVF Zarita lace dress. I have it in navy and love wearing it. This is a dress you will re-wear year round and will want it in many different colors as it fits any occasion.

Holiday outfits do not always have to be party skirts and cocktail dresses. Although I live for dresses, there is something nice about wearing festive pants. If you have an informal holiday occasion or a get together with girlfriends,  I think printed pants are a great way to still be festive yet not over the top.
First I would like everyone to admire how nicely my winter tan is coming in….
Coat: J.Crew (similar and similar) // Top: J.Crew // Purse: Tory Burch //
Pants: J.Crew (similar) // Shoes: J.Crew
My absolute favorite coat that I own and live in is this cream dream from J.Crew.  The classic, neutral color goes well with anything I wear–printed pants, jeans, leggings. And it’s more cheerful than my brooding black puffy winter coat. Welcome back winter depression. Besides the color, what had me at hello (besides my disillusion that I look like Jackie-O in it) was the fact that it did not have a collar. I love to wear scarfs and sometimes collars tend to get in the way. So much work fussing around with a scarf and a collar, no body has time for that.

Wardrobe change: I took the coat off.
Now back to my informal holiday attire: business on top, party on the bottom! If you haven’t jumped on the J.Crew Tippi Sweater bandwagon, then I may have to rethink our friendship or force you to buy one because they are the most amazing sweaters on earth. Not only are they comfortable, but the fit is perfect. Luckily J.Crew makes them in every color imaginable.
These pants, these pants, these pants! I bought them last year from J.Crew–watched the visual merch put them on the mannequin for the first time and lost all contact with the world for a good solid 2 minutes. Anyway, we are all in luck because J.Crew Factory brought them back this year. Well done Factory! When I put them on, I feel like they were meant for the holidays. The detail is beautiful and over all flattering. The print is preppy and fun. They have a little blue in the dots, so you can also wear a navy or white sweater with it.

Now onto the only non-J.Crew thing that I am wearing. My Tory Burch cross-body purse is a god-send. Whoever created cross-body purses, I should send you a thank you note. Hands free and small, I love to wear this purse during the day or out at night.
Guess what? We are back to talking about J.Crew again with my Stella Pumps. I honestly do not understand why Jenna Lyons hasn’t asked me to be a J.Crew model, wardrobe would already be provided and clearly I have a model statuesque body…. Anyway. These pumps are really comfortable. They are the heels for those who love the flat life (me).

If you are looking for a festive way to dress up this holiday season, but the occasion is not so Champagne and Mistletoe, then printed pants is the way to go!
