Month: January 2015

Breaking the rules with this all white attire. Whatever, rules are made to be broken. Anyway, I was tired of wearing all black and wanted a more cheerful look, and this instantly put me in a happier mood! The classic, minimalist look is really refreshing to wear. In the winter if I do not want to wear such dark colors, my options for a brighter attire usually is a pattern of some sort. An all white ensemble is the right amount of fresh air.

Although my jeans are tailored for spring/summertime, this big chunky sweater (which also comes in navy) makes it acceptable for winter. I have worn this sweater to brunch, out to dinner, and lounging around the house. It is heavy enough for cold days, but light enough that I can wear it through spring. My boots (similar) is really what ties the outfit together, making it seasonal. If I had worn my Jack Rogers, the entire look would be perfect for a day of boating. So breaking news: you can wear white all year round!

Love, love, love my Gigi New York clutch! I use it all the time. It is the perfect size and really goes with everything! I love the neutral look of mine, but wouldn’t mind getting another one with a more vibrant color.

I haven’t met a pearl accessory I didn’t like. Whether it is earrings, a necklace or a bracelet, I am always wearing pearls. This either makes my style classic or like a grandma, I don’t care.. I love it! My necklace is one that I have worn over and over again. It’s a great statement necklace, but not over the top.

Are you a rule breaker and wear white after labor day and throughout winter?

It is not something that I normally wear in the past, but have definitely become a big fan of it. I will now incorporate it more into my winter wardrobe!

It has been a month of living the sweaty life with ClassPass and I am loving every minute of it! Being able to experience and enjoy new fitness studios has really upped my workout motivation. Usually I try to exercise 4-5 times a week, but with ClassPass I have been working out 6 days a week!  I was so eager to try as many workouts and fitness studios I possibly could in just one month. Side note: I calculated the cost of all the classes I took and I would of have spent around $250 instead of $79. When I first started using ClassPass (talked about in this past post), I threw myself right into Crossfit and TRX training, both of which I have never done before. I wanted to continue with experimenting different methods of fitness training to see which would be the most beneficial to my body. Here is what I have done thus far.
Woman vs. Machine
The machine wins.
The Butcher Shop’s pilates megaformer (called Lagree Fitness) class is no joke. I looked up what Lagree Fitness means….. “an aggressive approach to full body conditioning”. Yeah, duly noted. I have taken plenty of Pilates mat classes before, so I went in a little too assertive. Within the first 5 minutes of class I had the “holy moly I am going to be sore tomorrow” thought, along with “my core suuuucccckksss” whimper, and the standard “if I leave, who is with me!” look around the room I give during every workout–and no one ever reciprocates. You use the machine as a resistance and counter-resistance conditioning to pinpoint contraction in order to exhaust the muscles. Each movement is to be done as slow as possible to achieve this. As a full-body conditioning, you are strengthening, toning, and elongating the muscles. It can also improve endurance, body composition, flexibility, and postural alignment. The class is 55 minutes long, and the method, I feel, is really effective. The machine consist of many different moving parts and it takes a class or two to fully understand what the heck is going on, what end should I be on, what is my foot placement, and which bands to use. Once you get the hang of it, it can be pretty enjoyable.  It’s like riding a magic carpet ride Flintstone style, and the result is a killer toned body. I can’t wait to do it again!
Can We Work On Savasana?
A question that has yet to fully be explored (and usually ignored) by your yoga teacher, and the only thought going on in my mind during class. If you are looking to namaste in every position hoping to get zen, this place is not for you. V Power Yoga is a physical, more athletic practice– I do like a good push-up while flowing through sun salutation. Movements are practiced through repeated sequences working on strength, balance, flexibility and stamina.  Done in a slightly heated room, I always leave feeling energized and detoxed.
It’s Getting Hot In Here, So Hot
Hot Box was not as physical as I assumed it would be.  I see how the method of using heat to fatigue your muscles while performing movements can improve your strength. There were movements I could barely do during the class, but without the heat, there would be no problem in fully doing them. Each movement was simple–push-ups, core-strengthing, barbell curls, squats, etc.  A portion is done on the floor using Pilates movements and core conditioning, while the next portion is weight training. I left the class exhausted and a little too dehydrated. Although I feel there are other methods that are more beneficial and can give you better results than working out in a sauna,  I do encourage trying it at least once. I also suggest taking a hot yoga class first before trying Hot Box, this way you are comfortable exercising in a heated room.

Leaving the house without my watch  (similar here) makes me feel completely out of balance. The days I forget to put it on before heading to work, I always have a feeling like something is not right throughout the day.  I am madly in love with my watch. I once left it at Soul Cycle and called them sobbing while I over-dramatically told them my life was over. Thankfully some good samaritan turned it in! I hope God gave them a VERY good reward. Anyway, although I love my watch to the moon and back, it really isn’t the most casual of watches. I would get nervous if I wore it out boating or camping. What I need is something that is still classic but a little more casual.
Lately I have been seeing Daniel Wellington watches pop up here and there on my Instagram and Pinterest feed. Usually I am not big on watch trends–sorry but I am so over the Marc Jacobs watch, really was never a fan to begin with anyway.  I think watches should be more of an investment piece than a trend. Well I am all onboard with this preppy trend. Daniel Wellington watches are aesthetically pleasing with a clean, simple design for an everyday casual look for both men and women. They come in either a leather or NATO strap. The straps can be interchangeable, which can come into play when changing the look for each season and occasion. The leather can also be personalized–done and done! Daniel Wellington’s are truly timeless pieces.

During this winter vortex I can only think of wanting to wear layers upon layers upon layers upon layers. Really rethinking my poor life choice of not moving to a year-round sunshine state. Anyway, you have heard me complain how cold I always am–my cardigan collection is quite impressive I would like to brag. But what is better than a cardigan? A wrap! I usually use a scarf to wrap my body while trying (and crying) to stay warm, but a wrap is an item that I need to invest in and wear every.single.day.of.winter. Or maybe I should move to a warmer state? Thoughts?!
