By now it should come as no surprise to you that I love a good self-help book. But I do not like to categorize it as self-help, but more like a reminder to take care of what is going on inside your mind. I like my reminder books to talk about anywhere from spirituality to positivity to total girl boss moves. The recharge, the strive it gives me to change the way I think and look at life events. I have talked in the past about certain books that changed my life– Zen and The Art of Happiness, The Secret, and anything by Gabrielle Bernstein. So today I wanted to share with you three more books that I have stumbled upon recently that will change the way you think.
In this hilarious and insightful novel by Shonda Rhimes (creator of every show you love on Thursday nights), The Year of Yes talks about how she decided to change her life. It started with a simple challenge, a year of saying yes to her health and to whatever invitation came her way. She had to face her fears and her personal issues she has been neglecting. When I first read this book it really resonated with me as I too was someone who was blocked off from saying yes–whether is was a date, a job, or a change. Even though I wanted all three, I was still blocked. So I have decided to live my life as a YES! I even made it my new year’s resolution. What I find most compelling was that it is relatable. She isn’t a spiritual or self help guru that is sugar coding the law of attraction. She is a regular person (well with hit TV shows and a net worth of millions of dollars) that is struggling with real life situations. And her year of yes was not the easiest either, but she pushed through it.
