friday's simply smitten

“You radiate what rests in you”

-Kavya Dixit

Happy Friday! I first want to say that my heart and prayers go out to the family and friends of the lives lost in the plane crash this past week. It’s an unimaginable tragedy. May this be a reminder to be kinder to each other, cherish every second you have, and tell people you love them. (more…)

books

It is no secret that one of my favorite book genres are romance. I love the feel good, Hallmark-ish with smut, books that make you kick your feet up while giggling.  This last part of what books I have read this past fall is all about romance. Just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Not In Love

Rue Siebert likes her quiet, content life. She doesn’t have very many friends or family, but she gets to work on her dream project at the biotech start-up Kline. That is enough for her. When it is revealed that Kline is facing a hostile business takeover, Rue starts to worry about her project, Kline, and financial stability. It also doesn’t help that Eli Killgore, one of the private equity founders trying to take over Kline, is devastatingly handsome. Torn between loyalty and attraction, can their secret love affair survive the business affair. Not In Love is an enemies to lovers, hidden relationship trope.

Review

I really enjoy Ali Hazelwood as an author. As a neuroscientist herself, all of her books are based around women in STEM. A mixture of romance and science. I loved how we get both Rue and Eli’s viewpoints. I love we can get an insight into a man yearning for the woman he loves. This book had some twist I wasn’t expecting, as well as having a lot of character development. Both Eli and Rue have a lot of baggage, especially with family, work, and personal. They help each other get through these insecurities and past hurts. Overall it was an enjoyable book.

Lost and Lassoed

The third book of the Rebel Blue Ranch book series. Teddy Andersen is the spitfire, creative, best friend of Emmy Ryder. Best friends since the day they were born. Lately Teddy has been feeling like everything and everyone around her is changing and growing except for her. She is starting to feel left behind. One thing that hasn’t change? Her constant bickering with Emmy’s older brother Gus. The two can not be in the same room together without an argument breaking out.

Gus thinks he can do everything on his own without anyone’s help; running the family ranch and taking care of his 6yr old daughter alone for the summer.  When he finally realizes he needs some help, he isn’t happy that his only option is the one person he can’t stand… Teddy. As the summer progresses, however, they start to see each other in a different light. Lost and Lassoed is about enemies to lover, slow burn, and second chances.

Review

I really enjoyed this one! Teddy and Gus’s bickering gets you to immediately smirk and raise an eyebrow because you know where all this tension is going to lead. Lyla Sage teases Teddy and Gus’s relationship in the first two books so I was ready for this slow burn to finally ignite. What I loved about the book was how I can relate to Teddy. I sometimes feel like I am left behind when everyone around me seems to be married with kids. It can really take a toll on your confidence. So it was nice to see Teddy muster through it while still believing in her passions and love. Overall it was a fun, easy, romantic book to read.
