When reviewing what books I read this past winter, I realized the themes were mystery, relationships, and history. Each book has a life lesson hidden in the pages of the story. To speak up for yourself, love deeply, and do whatever you feel is right. This is what I love about books. We think books escape us from reality, when in fact it’s teaches us about our own reality. It provokes us to evaluate our own lives and how we carry ourselves. How we may act in certain situations. How we treat our family and friends. How we value ourselves. What Books I Read This Past Fall Part 2

Are you one of the millions of people obsessing over Bridgerton? Or perhaps you always submerge yourself in the beloved classic Pride and Prejudice? If so, then today’s book review is for you! Lately I have been into period pieces and stories of romance through both books and television. It takes you back to a time where you feel nostalgic for what was, but you also didn’t experience it. This time period is in the Victorian Era where men wore top hats and women wore corsets and large skirts. When people spoke of honor and duty. Had manners and protocols. When men would properly court women so there wouldn’t be a scandal. Evie Dunmore’s “A League of Extraordinary Women” series has all of that. But what Dunmore adds to her romance novels are women who are brilliant, determined, and fighting for equal rights. Much like Elizabeth Bennett, these women are educated, have opinions and ideas of their own and are not afraid to express it. I highly recommend this book series! (more…)

If 2020 has taught me anything it’s that life is too short to not read a happy ending. I think I’ve finally turned into my grandmother where I will only read books that are upbeat and about romance. Never say never with mysteries or thrillers, but I wanted an escape and books are the best way to forget about the world around you. And if I am going to escape real life, I better be in a fantasy world where people fall in love, dreams come true, and the gossip is juicy. Here is part one of what books I read this past fall.
