My favorite part about the holiday season is the chance to get a little bit more dressed up than usual. I love nothing more than to put on a fancy dress and head to a formal event. It makes me feel elegant! This holiday season instead of wearing the traditional red or sequined dress, try wearing something a little different but still festive to the cocktail party. A dress you can continue to wear past the holiday season to various occasions.

For this holiday season I knew I wanted to wear a velvet dress to one of my more festive soirées. Velvet is very on trend right now and it is a fabric I have not yet incorporated into my wardrobe. I figured this season was the perfect opportunity to try out the trend. When I stumbled upon this velvet dress with a flounce hem from Rebecca Minkoff while shopping online, I thought it was too pretty to pass up. The color on the website says purple (which is one of my least favorite colors), but I would say it is more of a mauve color. This is a classic and simple dress with a little flare that will stand out in the sea of traditional sequined dresses this holiday season.

Every year my entire family gets together for a holiday feast on Christmas day. But before we dive into the delicious food we have our annual holiday wrapping competition. Each year we pick out of a bowl who we are getting a gift for. This year I have my cousin Hannah….. last time I had her I put maple syrup all over the package. Before you start to think it was a mean prank let me explain. (more…)

Over the weekend I aimlessly walked around the city. I sat in Washington Square Park for a while listening to a pianist play. It must of have been fate as he played my favorite classical music song, Clair de Lune. It is a beautiful, emotional, and romantic piece. Even if you do not like classical music you can appreciate this song. Anyway, after listening to him play for a while I walked over to the other side of the park to listened to a jazz trio. They were playing Christmas music, which really put me in the holiday spirit. I decided to mosey on over after a while to the West Village to look at Christmas decorations. People are slowly starting to put theirs up, but all of the store fronts are filled with lights, trees, garland, and  bows. The best time fo the year!

The other day I was reading The Skimm for my daily dose of news when I saw a quote from a scientist stating that all glitter should be banned. Well I’ve never heard such blasphemy. Glitter is life. I grew up wearing costumes for dance recitals and competitions, I basically bathed in glitter. As an adult I’d roll around in it right now if I could. I mean first glitter then what? sequins? I will not stand for it.  What is New Year’s Eve without a glitter dress on? This season I plan on wearing anything that shines. With many parties to attend to, we have quit a few chances to wear fun holiday dresses that sparkle.
