Over the weekend I attended my first ever polo match! It has been on my bucket list, vision board, wishlist for many years and finally it came true! This was the 11th year of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic and I couldn’t of have dreamed of a more perfect event for my first match. I loved every second of it, even the parts when my feet were killing me and I wanted to jump in the river because it was so hot. I couldn’t stop smiling I was so happy to be there and had the best time!

To attend the polo match there are three ways you can do so. The first is general admissions ticket, the cheapest one. This covers majority the grounds with food vendors and games like corn hole. The second option, on the opposite side of the field,  s the Rosé Garden. This is where my friends and I watched the game. The Rosé Garden ticket is pricer but you have three large tents, seated areas, your own personal bottle of champagne, games, and free boxed lunch. The third option is the VIP section behind the goal post. This section is for celebrities and top notch folks. The only way you can get into the VIP section is to be invited…. #goals. The VIP section is completely tented with a cute little garden for amazing Instagrammable pictures that you are currently seeing every celeb who attend post.

My day started off meeting Emily, from Empire Style of Mind, and our friend Gillian at Bluestone Cafe in Financial District. After a quick breakfast we walked over to Battery Park which is where we would take the ferry over to Liberty State Park. located in Jersey. It is also where we met up with Leckie, from West Village Wasp and her photographer.  I have to say getting to and from the Polo Classic was the worst part. The sun was out and everyone was already sweating. After the quick ferry ride you walked about 10-15 minutes to the field, which was awful. By the time we arrived at the Rosé Garden we all looked pretty beat up. My hair does not take to the heat or sweat easily and I knew my good hair day was out the door. If I could redo anything it would be to wear tennis shoes to and from the field and to wear a hat. Prior to attending I searched previous years to see what people were wearing and it seemed most were not wearing a hat. Now I realize it’s because they are in the VIP section under the tent… next year I am wearing a hat. Anyway, the second we got to the field we quickly picked out our section under one of the three tents. Thank goodness we got there early to get these seats. Our section had two love seats, a coffee table, and two chairs. We put our stuff on the chairs, immediately went and got water, and rested for a few minutes before walking around to take pictures. We wanted to do our photos early so we didn’t have to worry about it later. I especially wanted to get them over with so I could put my hair up… should of have worn a hat. I wore this floral ruffle dress from Rebecca Taylor. I have been eyeing it for a while now and knew the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic was the perfect event to wear it to. Everyone there was dressed to the nines. Seeing everyone’s look was one of the best parts. Horses (one of my favorite animals), champagne, pretty attire, and friends… what more could a girl ask for!

Each guest in the Rosé Garden received their own personal bottle of rosé. It came in this cute pink cover along with plastic Veuve Clicquot champagne flutes that I stole took home. They also had a little boutique where you could buy VC umbrellas, skateboards (why?), blankets, sunglasses etc. I ended up buying a hand fan– best $15 I have ever spent. After taking all of our pictures, settling into our seats, and eating a delicious lunch, the game finally started. Sutton Foster sang the national anthem and I about died. I literally squealed when they announced her name, and apparently I was the only one around me who knew who she was. Sutton is a a big broadway star. You may know her as the main character in Bunheads, a few cameo’s in the Gilmore Girls revival, and is now the star of the show Younger with Hillary Duff. To listen to her sing was amazing! I love her, I adore her, and it was the perfect way to start the game… at least for me.

The majority of the day was spent drinking champagne and socializing. I almost forgot why we were there until the players came out to practice. I am not familiar with the rules of the game so I was surprised to see that there were only 4 players on each team and no one to cover the goal post. I figured there would be 6-8 people per team. Nacho Figueras played for the Veuve Clicquot team. It’s Nacho’s world and we are all just living in it. The entire time the announcer would only say Nacho’s name or I missed hearing the names of the other players. I couldn’t even tell you who else played (although I do think Nacho’s wife played for VC as well?). Anyway, it was pretty cool to see him play. There were a few moments when he would ride off the field and through our section, the crowd was loving it.

Another part of the game I was surprise to realize was how short the game actually is. I believe it lasted about 40 minutes. By the time the announcer said to stomp the divots it felt like the game had just started. Stomping the divots was fun. They roped off each section with security guards– GA, Rosé, VIP– so you couldn’t hop over to another section. We walked over to the end of our rope towards the VIP section to see if we could recognized any celebs. Unfortunately we did not. Oh well!

By the time we left the game we were dreading the walk to the ferry. It was pretty miserable. My feet were so swollen, cut, and bruised. I was limping most of the way there. By the time I got home it was a little after 6pm and I happily crashed in my bed to binge watch TV. The entire day was amazing! I am so happy I finally was able to see a polo match. I still can’t get over the entire day. I am already looking at other polo matches in the area to attend. Polo is quickly becoming my new favorite sport to watch. The entire day was a dream and I keep thanking god I was finally able to attend a match after all of these years of it not working out. If you ever want to attend a polo match, Veuve Clicquot is the way to go! Can’t wait to go next year!
