In a few weeks I will be attending The Women’s Fund Of Central Ohio’s Keyholder Fundraiser. Themed “Going Off The Script”, this year’s key speaker is Vanessa Williams. I am excited to hear the story of her life and how she became what she is today by defining her own path. The event will be held on Tuesday, May 10th at 6pm. If you would like to attend, you can purchase tickets here.
When I think of “going off the script” in life, I think of defining my life by my own rules and through my own passions. There isn’t a right way or a wrong way to live your life. You live your life through the decisions and the choices you make, that you want to make. We are all designed to experience different things in life, that is what makes us unique, one of a kind. You have heard the phrase “there is no blueprint to success” before, because there is no blueprint to life. You define success, your life, your experiences by following your own rules.
For me, I have tried to live my life by doing it my way. Take this blog for example, I am doing it my way. I am not following the steps of another blogger or a layout of a consultant, I am doing things day by day, my way. I choose what goes on my blog, what brands I collaborate with, what outfits to take pictures in. And when it comes to life, while my friends were getting married and having kids, I moved to New York to experience life in a whole new way. Both ways are beautiful and wonderful and full of life, but it’s the choices made by the individual. Someday I will have the family portion, and someday my friends could move to another city or they could choose another way to experience a new way of life that works for them. It’s based on our own timelines and what we want in life. I do know I want it all– the business success, the life experience of travel, and the family. The whole package and I will get it, my way.
I have always admired #girlboss ladies. Women entrepreneurs who were breaking the mold of what women can and can not do and going the extra mile. Whether they are fashion designers, creators of tech start-ups, opened their own law firm, or own a local business. Women who take risks and reach success their way and did it beautifully. Women who find life to be filled with beauty and inspiration no matter the failure that arrives at their doorstep. They take the failure and use it as inspiration. Women who were told no and did it anyways. But failures aside, it’s their drive to do what they are passionate about is what I admire the most. They use their creativity and determination to set the path of their life. These women have made the biggest impact on me.
Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to own my own business one day. I loved the idea of being my own boss, making my own rules, creating something that is my own. What type of business I wanted to own has changed throughout the years. My career path has changed, I have changed, and my creativity has changed, but the desire to become an entrepreneur has always been there. Maybe this blog will be it or maybe it will lead to a different creative endeavor. Whatever I choose to do, I will write the script my own way.
*If you are in Columbus, I highly suggest going to see Vanessa Williams speak because hello, it’s Vanessa Williams, and it will be inspirational. We could all use a little more inspiration in our lives or help others get a little more inspiration. You can do this by donating your old work clothes or tutor children or donate old books. Help make a change for others to pave the way to their own success.
