Can you believe Easter is only a week away?! Easter is one of my favorite holidays. The candy, in my opinion, is the best and I love seeing everyone dressed in their best pastels. Normally by now I would of have had my easter dress picked out and ready to be worn, but this year time has flown by so fast. Easter kind of snuck up on me, I am not ready.
Growing up we started the day by first seeing what the Easter Bunny brought us. Over the years it has changed from a doll to movies and now a gift card. Also in our baskets we have lots of chocolate and jelly beans. After we open our baskets we searched the house for eggs that are hidden. My sister usually cheated– and I hope she is reading this so she knows that I know she cheated (and still does). We then would have breakfast and watch the Easter Day Parade. After we breakfast we headed to church for morning service. The day would be spent at my grandparent’s house once again tearing through our baskets and finding egg— this time my cousin Jon would cheat and always win. I, of course, never cheated– having my dad or grandpa tell me to look in a certain area is not cheating……… It’s not! We ended the chocolate bunny filled day with dinner at my parents or grandparents house.
As we got older Easter has changed a little. Some have been spent here in NYC with just my sister and me, and some have been spent with only one of us at our parents house. This year I will be the only sibling at home and I better get an Easter basket. Not even joking. I texted my mom to make sure I was getting an Easter basket. I am not wasting any opportunity to get free chocolate. Another part of the holiday that has changed is our outfits. As a little girl one of the many fond memories I have is going to the fabric store with my grandmother to pick out what pattern or color I wanted for my Easter dress. Each year as a special treat my grandmother would make our dresses, and we would wear cute hats and white gloves with it. I remember having fittings where I would be scratched and picked by the pins, but I loved it. In-fact it was the beginning of my love and obsession with fashion. Somewhere along the way, probably late elementary school, we started buying our Easter dresses. Although nothing will ever compare to my grandmothers handmade creations, there are a lot of cute dresses that will be perfect to show off for the Easter Bunny and to eat chocolate in.
