“I’m extremely grateful that some things didn’t workout the way I once wanted them to”

Happy Friday and Happy Kentucky Derby/ Cinco de Mayo weekend! I am much more of a Kentucky Derby kind of gal. It’s one of my favorite days of the year. I love horses, dressing up in Lilly, and wearing big hats! For the past few years I have celebrated the Derby at The Union League Club. This year, however, I will be watching the Derby while celebrating Cinco de Mayo at a party. Maybe I’ll wear my Derby dress for the first half of the party then switch to a more Cinco de Mayo appropriate attire. Act two.

Anyone else feel like this week has been so long? I thought Thursday was Friday and today was Saturday. Huge bummer when I figured out I was wrong. I am not sure why I find this week to be dragging, probably because I am starting the Keto diet on Monday and am itching to begin. I have been hearing about the Keto diet for a while, and to be honest I dismissed it because you can’t really eat fruit. I am a believer that fruit is not junk food so why cut it out. I get that it has sugar and carbs and still spikes your insulin levels just the same, but I love fruit. Anyway, I decided last weekend that I was going to do this because I realized, even though I eat healthy I wasn’t eating the right stuff.  My diet consists of bananas, apples, honey, sweet potatoes, dates, chocolate (and a lot more of course). What I didn’t realize is how much sugar and carbs are in all of it. I have also noticed an unfortunate weight gain and feeling sluggish and tired a lot. I want to do the diet religiously for a month then adapt a more paleo/Keto lifestyle after that. Since I am starting this renewed (I used to be much better at eating healthy) lifestyle, I am going through my greatest hits of my favorites foods that include carbs. I also wanted to start this after Cinco de Mayo because I love Mexican food and want chips and guacamole.

I had a few events this week. First a Cinco de Mayo photoshoot lunch with a few of my blogger friends Emily, Leckie, Krystal, Jenna, Scarlett, and Diego. We had lunch as Mexicue in NoMad. It was my first time there and honestly the best Mexican food I have had in the city. The lunch was  fun and we ate a lot! Thursday I went to the Beauty2 event. It was a small gathering of natural skincare and makeup product companies. I didn’t stay long but enjoyed hearing how each product was made naturally. Today I am heading to Kiehl’s for an event and then going uptown to NYLO hotel for the launch of their spring flower market.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! XO
