Upon first meeting me after finding out what I do, men always ask what I think of their outfit. It’s funny because women never ask, it’s only men who do (for that I am grateful). Maybe it’s because men won’t take offense to my opinion or maybe they generally want advice. Lucky I haven’t come across a situation where I can’t at least pick out one thing that I like about an outfit.

This question was sprung on me over the weekend at a Cinco de Mayo get together. Two of the guys there asked me what I thought of their outfits. I said I liked them (which I did) and then added that I liked their Warby Parker sunglasses/glasses (one had sunglasses on, the other had glasses). Just like women’s clothing, I have my opinions and aesthetics on menswear. I know what I find attractive and what I wish guys would stop wearing (i.e sandals outside of the pool/beach). Anyway, this conversation reminded me that I haven’t posted about menswear in a while.

The summer season is a great time to play with colors. Men shouldn’t be afraid to wear shades of pink and yellow. Blue is alway a safe color to wear, one that looks good on everyone. You can also play around with patterns like stripes or even polka dots. I prefer patterns than prints on guys, but do what makes you feel comfortable. Swim trunks and ties are a great way to play with prints. To keep your look elevated, a button up short sleeve shirt is perfect for summer. It still makes you look put-together and well dressed as oppose to t-shirts. Not saying t-shirts are a no no. Just on nights out when a t-shirt is not acceptable and a long sleeve button up is unbearable because of the heat, short-sleeved Oxford’s are your answer.
