“one day I decided I was gonna choose me. I haven’t looked back since.”
Happy Friday!! What a crazy week it has been. It seemed as if every brand decided to throw an event or preview. I couldn’t go to everything that I was invited to, but the ones I was able to attend were lots of fun!
Monday night I hopped over to Brooklyn to celebrate Rent The Runway’s new partnership with WeWork. If you are unfamiliar with WeWork, it is a communal office space that you can rent out. They are located in certain parts of the US and internationally. Here in the city they seem to be in every neighborhood. It’s a great work place for start-ups, freelancers, small businesses, etc. The new partnership with RTR will help women seamlessly use their services (usually the unlimited membership). Some, if not all, WeWork locations in NYC will have a drop off box as well as a pop-up rental shop. Lets say you are working in the office all day and your boss invites you out for dinner and drinks with clients but you are wearing jeans. No problem! You can easily rent out an outfit for the occasion right then and there. It’s a very smart idea! The event was fun with lots of mingling, a panel with RTR’s founder, racks of ready to wear clothing, and The Bumbys. I was so excited The Bumbys were there, I’ve been dying to do it! The Bumbys is a married? couple? sister/brother? friends duo? No one knows! They are anonymous performance artists who wear bandanas over their mouths, sunglasses, wigs, and hats to cover their identity. What they do is write you a letter– an appraisal of your appearance. All you do is stand in front of them while they type on their typewriters a little letter of what your appearance says to them. Then they rate your appearance out of 10. My note was about how I seem to be a great event planner; especially showers and bachelorettes. I am caring, have a maternal instinct, am always needed, and I know best. My overall rate of my appearance was a 9.7. I would love to do it again and see what I get, as it would most likely be different.
Tuesday was the only day this past week that I did not have an event. I spent most of the day working, especially on my current collaborations. I did, however, go to Brrrn for the first time! I have been hearing a lot about Brrrn and knew I needed to give it a try. Brrrn is yoga and HIIT classes in 55 degree weather under infrared lighting. Apparently it’s much better for your body/skin to workout in. When your body is cold it uses it’s own heat (your metabolism) to stay warm, you burn more calories in the cold, and the infrared lighting has a load of benefits as well. You can check out all of the benefits here! It’s pretty cool! I opted to do yoga first before doing HIIT (still need to try it). I am not going to lie, I was cold. My feet were freezing and I didn’t sweat at all. What I did notice is how much I was actually concentrating on my breathing, which is something I definitely do not do during other forms of exercises. My muscles were also shaking the entire time. I’ll get more into details in another post, but I am definitely a fan of Brrrn.
Wednesday afternoon I went to Veerah’s showroom to play around with their current collection and take photographs. Veerah’s shoes are honestly the most comfortable heels I have ever worn! They are also vegan and sustainable. That evening I attended Shape Magazine’s #ShapeSquad celebration at The Blond. Shape throws this party at the end of the year to celebrate another year of fitness with everyone that they have collaborated with. It was a fun event filled with lots of mingling; a few of my friends are running the full marathon next weekend, so there was a lot of discussions about preparations. I have never ran in a race anything more than a 5K, so color me impressed by those who do half and fulls.
Yesterday I left the island and headed upstate to the Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard with DL1961. It was a very small group of us, all wearing DL1961 fall collection jeans/jean jackets. We took a hayride up this beautiful hill to go apple picking, we ate a yummy farm to table lunch, played around in the pumpkin patch, and drank spiked apple cider. The entire day was so much fun and exactly the getaway I needed! I was a little under dressed for the weather so was cold for most of the day, but well worth it! I went home with a bag full of apples, homemade almond butter, local honey, and a cute pumpkin from the market store. It was one of the best events I have attended and with some of my favorite people!
Today I am doing an 8-hour photoshoot for a new collaboration that I am working on. I can’t give all of the details yet but I am SO excited to share with you soon. I am pretty nervous for the day and hope everything goes well!
This weekend I do not stop till I drop. Tomorrow I am volunteering to help the American Ballet Theatre put on their first ever Family Friendly Matinee event. It’s a chance for kids to see the ballet, do arts and crafts, meet the dancers, and show off their Halloween costumes. I used to work for ABT in their Educational and Community Outreach Department, which is still one of my favorite jobs that I have ever had! My old boss contacted me and asked if I wanted to volunteer to help out and I jumped at the chance to. It’s going to be a fun afternoon I feel!
Saturday night I am attending a Halloween party. What I am being I do not have a clue. I am going to stop by the costume store Saturday after volunteering to see if there is anything simple and cheap I can wear. Otherwise I do have cat ears that I can wear as a back up plan. I am sure I can get something together from the clothes I already have. I do enjoy making a DIY costume, but do not have enough time to make one. What are you going to be for Halloween?
Have a wonderful weekend xo
