Another New York Fashion Week has come and go. The streets are no longer filled with fashionably- crazy outfits, just your normal all black wearing New Yorkers. Although the runways are all about fall and winter ’19, the streets of fashion week is where the trends of today are. The thing about NYFW is that anything goes. In line waiting for a show to start, you will girls in cocktail dresses, sneakers with jeans, athletic wear, over-sized coats, some crazy sparkly outfits, neutrals and minimalist, and so on. Although anything goes during fashion week, there are still some top trends that graced the streets of New York. Neon is having a major moment right now; I think Pantone got the color of the year wrong (coral), neon green is what every fashionista is wearing. Another color that many influencers wore were shades of pink. Python and plaid are two prints that were all over NYFW, worn either as a garment or an accessory. Mini crossbody bags were a big hit– are fanny packs out again? Sneakers and white boots are the main choice for footwear– need to become a sneaker wearing influencer, my feet hurt. And of course statement, well anything, was in. You name the item and someone had some sort of statement saying on it. As there are many trends to follow from fashion week, here are a few of my favorites.
This timeless piece was worn by most influencers and industry people. From chunky sweaters to fitted silhouettes to tuck in, turtlenecks are proving to still be winter’s number 1 it item. I, for one, am a big fan of the classic. It’s sophisticated, simple, and easy to style. It’s good to have them in many different colors for a variety of outfits. I usually opt for my basic black, blue, or white one, but would love to add some color to the mix.
Whoever revamped the hair accessory trend… I thank you! Everyone, I mean everyone at one point had either a headband, pearl clip, or statement bobby pins in their hair. Hair accessories were the real fashionable items to watch for. It’s a trend anyone can pull off and style according your liking. Throw your bangs back with a simple bobby pin or put your hair in a low bun with a clip. I personally am enjoying the multiple clips/pins with your hair straight down on the sides. Some criss-cross the pins while others nicely place them in a row. However you style your hair, this is a trend you must jump on board with!
The real fashionable pieces at NYFW are, of course, winter coats. No one see’s what you have underneath, you do not have time to take your coat off. Your coat is your entire outfit. The main event. Since it’s the focal point of your outfit many people, including myself, wore bright colored to pattern coats. On days that is was not as cold, I would drape my coat over my shoulders so my outfit is exposed. Trés chic if I do say so myself.
It seems matching suits are here to stay! From the runways to the streets, matching suits were everywhere. I wore my new pink suit from Kate Spade that I love to my last show– Lela Rose. I am really getting into this trend and would love to add more matching suits to my closet. People were wearing patterns to prints to bright colors to neutral suits. They are chic, feminine, and powerful.
