A trend that has stand the test of time is the animal print. From leopard to jaguar to python, brands have been creating garments in this wildlife print for many years. Some may say it can be considered a neutral. It’s true that you can pair animal prints to any color, mixing it with other prints however, not my forte. The tricky thing about animal print is that it has to be the right style. It can come off as tacky if you are not careful. I guess it’s open to interpretation on what looks tacky or not, but for me when there is too much going on (added studs or colors) or you are in head to toe leopard, it is tacky. When purchasing items that are in animal print I take into careful consideration as to what shade is the print, how big or small are the spots, and how cheap the material looks. I have a few leopard items in my closet– flats and a blouse from J.Crew (vintage circa 5 years ago), but I have been shying away from animal prints ever since, until now.

When shopping as SAKS a month ago I wasn’t looking for anything in particular. If anything I was looking at garments that had a floral print on it– something I have been donning much more of lately. I was in the Rebecca Taylor section (not shocking) when I saw this jaguar print dress with lace trimmings. To be honest I was not sure of it at first, but thought I should at least try it on. The second I did I fell in love. The lace detailing puts a feminine touch on a powerful statement print. The print itself doesn’t look necessarily like an animal print, but more like dots or an abstract brush stroke. This dress is a great transitional piece into spring and one that I can wear throughout summer and even into the fall. If you are looking for a classic animal print that is not overwhelming, this dress is for you.
