“don’t ever let other people decide who you are”
Happy Friday!! Even though it is raining outside right now these past fews have been the perfect weather, putting me in the best mood. Then to top it all off Taylor Swift released her new song and video ME! today and that just makes me so very happy!! From what I can tell from her Instagram and current image change, this new album is going to be about how in love and happy she is, dreamy eyed and hearts in the sky. I am excited for the new album but I am going to miss angry Taylor…… I love angry Taylor. You may have seen my Instagram Stories where I set an alarm for midnight last night so I can get up and listen/watch the video. Do I need a life? I was excited for it! Anyway, Taylor always creates albums that really parallel with what is going on in my life. Her 1989 album about Harry– being in a relationship that keeps going back and forth where she ends up completely heartbroken, but ultimately finds herself in the end. GIRL did you read my diary?! Then she came out with Reputation where she basically said a screw you to everyone who has hurt her, didn’t support her, talked about her behind her back, to the people who were toxic for her and just said goodbye, moving on, I am strong. AND that is exactly how I felt at that time. I am curious to see if this new album coincides with what is going on with my life. Only time can tell.
Anyway, besides being a teeny bopper dork, I am back in New York after a long weekend at home in Columbus. I had the best time with my family. With going out to dinner with my parents, working out with my sister and cousin, babysitting my niece, chatting with my 96yr old grandmother, I had a lovely time. My niece finally learned to say my name and it basically makes my heart explode! On Easter I was uncontrollably laughing the entire time; from my uncle’s classic one liners, to my cute 2yr old niece being her cute self, to reminiscing about the past. I was crying laughing. I wish I could of have stayed longer but unfortunately work and responsibilities were calling my name here in New York.
I flew back Tuesday evening, so Wednesday I took the entire day to do admin work and to catch up on emails. Thursday morning I went to see a sneak preview of The Elepop pop-up before it opens tomorrow! It is an art-installation to raise awareness about the protection and conservation of elephants. I really enjoyed it. I learned a lot about elephants and the importance of us protecting them. Here are a few things I learned:
- Elephants are afraid of bees. Local farmers use beehives as a natural barrier around their crops so that the elephants do not raid them. This saves farmers from economic loss. Elephants flee towards safe human areas to get away from poaching activities and destroyed habitats.
- Elephants tucks- ivory- are used as currency in trade in war zones. The profits then help fund terrorist organizations.
- Elephants mostly communicate through a low vibration they make that travels through the ground and felt with their feet. This low vibration can travel up to 6 miles. The only time elephants use their trunks for sound is to warn danger.
- Elephants can suffer from PTSD. They have human like emotions and feel things exactly how we do. So when they experience violence or terror it can affect their mental health. Elephants think humans are cute, much like how we view dogs, so when they see a human using violence or terror towards them they end up with PTSD. Their only predator are humans. Ugh breaks my heart!
- There is a reason for every living creature. Even though they are highly intelligent and can adapt to changes in the ecosystem and eat a variety of food to survive, elephants still need a large habitat to roam. Elephants play a major key role in their habitat to preserve and maintain the area. In the dry season or dry areas they use their tusk to dig for water so not only they, but other animals can survive. In the forest they eat large gaps of vegetation creating paths for smaller animals to use and allowing new plants to grow. They also distribute seeds around the area.
I have always loved elephants. One of things on my bucket list is to go on a Safari and ride an elephant. Now I am even more in love with them after learning so much. Please, if you have the chance- go see The Elepop and/or donate to help our big friendly friends.
Thursday evening I went to the Burrow House in Soho. They were introducing their new sofa collection and turned the store into a speakeasy. I had a good time there and ran into people (the Stenmark twins were there… ugh, swoon), that I haven’t seen in a while like my friend Emily, owner of Six Degrees Society. Emily moved to San Francisco a year ago and was in town for business. I would highly suggest joining Six Degrees— a chance to meet other boss babes and connect with like-minded people!
This weekend I have nothing majored planned except to workout and relaxed, hopefully finish my book.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend…. and let us all pray for a full recovery after watching the Game of Thrones battle that is about to start this weekend. Not ready.
