When people think of New York they think of Times Square, Central Park, or The World Trade Center. What many people do not know about is all the wonderful hidden gems this city has to offer. My personal favorite would be carousels. If you can believe it, New York has 13 carousels hidden around the city. I was even surprise to find that out, I could only think of 5. Anyway, one of my favorite’s is the Jane’s Carousel in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Located right on the pier, it has a beautiful view of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. Near the carousel is the Time Out Market Building and Dumbo House. It’s really a great excuse to spend a beautiful summer day in Brooklyn.

While taking photos for this shift dress, I thought it would be fun to ride the carousel with my photographer Lauren. We had plenty of time to spare, and honestly, I can’t remember the last time I was on a merry-go-round. The cost of the ride was only $2, which baffled me; something in New York is cheap?! I would’ve paid more for the nostalgic 2 min ride. I felt like a kid again. Carousels were always my favorite part of any Carnival, State Fair or Amusement Park as a kid. Although fun to do, I do not need the thrill rides, just give me a carousel and I will be happy.

There is something so calming and wonderful about sitting on a fake horse while listening to organ music. I remember the first time ever being on a carousel, my sister and I were spending the day with our grandparents. I had to be about 4 or 5 years old. I do not remember where we were, but we were in Ohio. I remember being so excited to ride the carousel and going up and down while my grandfather stood right next to me. I never wanted to get off. I believe this started my love for horses. The feelings I had then are the same feelings I have now; you are never too old to ride a carousel.
