Happy Friday! Hope you had a wonderful time celebrating the 4th of July! I am home in Columbus spending time with friends and family. After a fun weekend in New York with my mom, we both flew to Columbus on Sunday. I am here until this Sunday, making it a nice long week home.
Over the weekend, when my mom was in the city, I took her to the new Hudson Yards. We had lunch at Teak Tearoom then went to Neiman’s to shop. Afterwards we walked to the New Kids On The Block pop-up store that was on w15th st. My sister and I were HUGE NKOTB fans growing up (still are, we went to their concert a few years ago). I remember having t-shirts, lunch boxes, playing cards, posters, and more of the famous boy band. We loved them! Anyway, for the pop-up shop I was hoping it would be more of a museum of memorabilia, photographs, etc, instead it was a store to sell their new tour t-shirts. I was even hoping for an old tour t-shirt, replacing my very worn out one that no longer fits me. Oh well, it was still fun to see.
After NKOTB we had a quick dinner at Maison Kaiser then saw The Rocketman movie. My mom and I are both big fans of Elton John- we even went to his farewell tour concert together this past fall. The movie was great! I really liked it! It is not set-up like Bohemian Rhapsody where it’s seems almost like a documentary. The Rocketman felt as if you were watching a Broadway show or musical about Elton John’s life. The characters would be speaking then all of a sudden break out into one of his songs. I still enjoyed it! I thought the actors did an amazing job and the whole thing was entertaining. It also surprised me how parallel his life is to Freddie Mercury. Both struggling to come out, married or almost married a woman, excessive shopping, very camp with their outfits, drugs/sex/alcohol abuse, feeling suicidal and lonely, difficulties with parents (although Freddie Mercury’s relationship was not as bad and resolved itself). It makes me wonder why ANYONE would want to be famous. Anyway, go see the movie, it’s so good!
Saturday we went to the Met Museum to see the new exhibition Camp: Notes on Fashion, the theme from this year’s Met Gala. It was a great exhibition. They had a section for historical fashion and people that were embodiments of camp of their time. And another section showing current fashion trends from different designer’s collections. Once again it was well done and I am so excited to see what next year’s theme/exhibition will be! After the Met Museum we went to dinner at the new restaurant on the rooftop of Eataly, Serra by Birrera. The entire restaurant is decorated like a garden and the food was pretty good too. Highly recommend! Makes for a great date night spot or happy hour drinks with friends.
Since being home I have been hanging out with my family. My mom babysits my niece throughout the week. It’s been nice to spend time with her, she is a bundle of joy! I am truly obsessed with her. We went swimming in my neighbor’s pool where she really enjoyed me pretending to be a shark, and also holding onto my back while I swim. We also took her shopping while I tried on clothes for my high school reunion Besides hanging with my niece, I worked out with my sister, been going on bike rides with my dad, out to dinner with my parents, and just relaxing.
The 4th yesterday was a lot of fun! The parade was good– bringing back so many great memories of high school. My parents had their annual picnic and we went to the park to watch the fireworks. Over the years the 4th has become a lot more chill and relaxed as everyone has kids. I miss the times when we used to run around town going to party after party, but it is also nice to have a relaxing 4th.
Tonight is my high school reunion. 15 years can you believe it!! So crazy!! I am on the planning committee for the event, so I am excited to see how it turns out. I was in charge of running doing social media. I have had a blast going through old year books for pictures (even posting ones from other decades) and creating fun memes. We went all out this year with getting it catered, open bar, a corn hole set, an Instagrammable wall, and beer from one of my classmates brewery. The event is at Dock580, which is a nice event space in Downtown Columbus. I am excited to see my friends and to see some old pals from high school. Should be a good time!
Besides my high school reunion I am probably going to go out to brunch with friends, go to the pool with my family, and relax until I leave Sunday. Oh and of course start watching Wimbledon and Stranger Things 3!
Have a wonderful weekend xo
