Happy Friday!! This week was… well.. in the wise words of Urkel “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”. I hurt my back Sunday morning and have been dealing with it ever since. This is the second time in a little over a month that I have had back issues… welcome to your 30’s.
Sunday morning I woke up, grabbed my phone, bent over to look at Instagram and a sharp pain ran down my body. I figured maybe I slept wrong or my neck/upper back (where most of the pain was located) was sore from working out the previous few days. I decided to put a heating pad on it to loosen up the muscles around that area. Then I went to Precision Run to workout. If I was sore or slept wrong, moving was the best option. I felt completely fine during my workout and was able to run my normal speed without discomfort. That afternoon, however, I kept having intense muscle spasms almost to the point I felt as if I couldn’t move at all. This continued through Monday and parts of Tuesday. I spent most of my days laying on the couch switching between a heating pad and ice packs. Then going onto the floor to foam roll and use my massage ball to loosen knots. I was in agony, therefore barely left my apartment.
By Tuesday I thought I was in the clear, and like the idiot that I am I thought it would be a good idea to go to sculpt class. Once again I was fine during the class, a little discomfort but nothing I couldn’t handle. It wasn’t until the end of class when we were stretching our necks that the pain shot through my body and my muscles started to clench and spaz out. I spent the rest of the day on the couch going through my recovery routine. I decided I needed to go to either the Chiropractor or acupuncture. At first I was more keen on going to the Chiropractor since I have not been in a few years (I know, I know) and as someone who has scoliosis, I should be going regularly. But I freaked myself out with the thought of someone adjusting my neck when I could barely move it. I figured it was better for me to loosen my muscles before adjusting my body. I booked an acupuncture appt. at WTHN Wednesday morning; it was the best decision, I feel much better. I can move my neck without pain and I have yet to have muscle spasms (knock on wood). The acupuncturist said that the muscles were so tight around my neck and upper back, that she was afraid to put the needles in. Instead she worked around my body first to get my muscles to loosen up before working on my neck and upper back area. I have to say, out of all of the times I have been to acupuncture this was the first time I actually whimpered out load. I only did it when she put the needles into my trap muscles. My goodness…… Anyway, I feel so much better but am still nursing my back. I haven’t worked out since Tuesday, but am going to attempt DanceBody Saturday morning.
Unfortunately or fortunately, however you want to view it, my week in terms of work was rather slow. I spent most of my days reading, watching Netflix, listening to every Podcast known to man, and of course engrossed in The Bachelorette / Bachelor in Paradise drama. SO.GOOD.
Yesterday was the first day I felt much better all around and lucky enough it was the only day I had an event. Last night I attended the Choosy x Affiner event in Soho. I had a blast! I had so much fun the only pictures I took were of clothing and not of the amazing rooftop of the Choosy office or my friends. Choosy is a year old affordable fashion brand that I am currently loving these days. They have such cute stuff!! I ended up getting this cute set that I am going to wear to NYFW this coming September. Affiner, if you are unfamiliar, is a company that will help you revamp your wardrobe. Whether it is finding new items, organizing your closet, sending clothes to consignment stores, or having old items completely redesigned through Reissued. The company is owned by sisters Caitlin and Erin. I worked with them a little over a year and a half ago, and it was the best decision ever. I am still getting commission from clothes that are being sold through the consignments stores. Which is a nice treat! They worked wonders on my closet and dresser. I still use their folding techniques (rolling items) when it comes to my dresser, but my closet, unfortunately, has become a disaster again. I basically sleep in a walk-in closet at this point.
At the event they had BABE rosé cans to drink, company previously owned by The Fat Jew, now owned by Anheuser-Busch. It was my first time trying BABE rosé and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. They also had someone there to get your hair braided. I usually opt out of such things because I find it’s better to mingle than spend time getting pampered at an event. This, however, was right smack in the middle of the event, so I was able to continue my conversation while getting my hair done. I went for the classic french braid.
This weekend I am spending time at The Dream Downtown looking at their new Saatchi art installation created by Bollee Patino, laying out by the pool, and enjoying life. Will be a great time! Other than my day at the Dream Hotel, I am going to attempt to go to DanceBody for their full out class, run errands, maybe see a movie, and just enjoy summer. I realized I have yet to go kayaking in the Hudson River, which I usually like to do in the summer time. It’s free to do! Hopefully I will be able to do it before the summer ends.
Have a wonderful weekend xo
