Is there anything more classic than a striped shirtdress? It’s an item that you can wear for years to come and still be in style. What makes this article of clothing so timeless? It flatters everyone. It’s no fuss, clean-cut, chic, and feminine. In a world where fashion is all about change, when an item is sought after year after year it becomes a staple, classic piece. Borrowed from men’s shirts with its button-up closure, crisp collar, and cuffed sleeves, the shirtdress was created by Christian Dior after WWII in the 1950’s. Originally it was known as “shirtwaist” dress.

Over the years I have accumulated many different styles of the shirtdress; from fun patterns and prints to different sleeve lengths to loosely fitted. This shirtdress from Court and Rowe has been my go-to everyday wear this fall season. I pair it with white sneakers or flats for a more casual look or heels for an elevated style. I love the tie waist that you can play around with, creating a bow or a knot, letting the strands hang loose. Shirtdresses are a classic, must-have item that every woman should have as part of their wardrobe.
