Happy Friday! This past week was a much quieter one now that fashion week is over. It’s nice to have downtime every once in a while to breathe, decompress, reenergize, and relax. It was more about self-care than anything else.
Unfortunately or fortunately, depends on how you want to look at it, I did not have any events to attend to this past week. I spent most of my time taking care of my left shoulder. I had my second to last chiropractic appointment and a medical-massage. The massage I did over the weekend and my God it was amazing, yet torturous. It’s a mix of a standard massage and physical therapy. My session was 90 minutes and we did a lot of work on my body. He started by releasing tension in my hip flexors and legs, then slowly moved up to my back, shoulder, and neck area. At one point he dug into my armpits to move around the muscles behind my shoulder blades. That really hurt, I thought I was going to cry. Even though most of the 90 mins I was in pain, I felt amazing afterward. It was the first time in a long time my left shoulder felt normal. He said my muscles were extremely tight and overused/overstretch. He also said that I have some weak muscles in my back, due to not lifting weights in proper form. Meaning I am not using the proper muscles when doing certain movements- even though it may look physically correct. My left shoulder issue could also be a result of overcompensating my right side since I have a slight curvature of scoliosis. My curve is to the right side of my body; when I was growing up it was always the side that had pain, so I would really work on loosening the muscles. I guess I have ignored the left side of my body, causing now to have issues. When I went back to my chiropractor she said my shoulder was like night and day. That she could actually move my shoulder blade around, which she was not able to before. I still have aches and pain in my shoulder and will continue to do chiropractic therapy along with acupuncture and medical massages. I may end up going to PT to try and strengthen the weak muscles in my back, but that is down the road if the above does not work.
Since I am nursing my left shoulder most of my workouts have been low-impact. I have been going to yoga and pilates a lot to work on proper form, stretch my muscles, and strengthen my core. I am slowly adding weights back in with sculpt classes. I am still going to dance cardio and continuing to run to keep my stamina up. I am hoping my shoulder gets back to normal soon so I can try new workouts! I have a few on my list that I have been dying to try but do not want to overwork my body. Since doing all of this work on my body I have been extremely fatigued. All I want to do is sleep. My muscles are weak during my workouts; basically they are trying to figure out what the hey hey is going on.
Other than mostly doing self-care stuff, I spent the week trying to finish my book Little Fires Everywhere. I am almost done reading it, and have to say I really enjoy this book. I know when I originally posted it on my IG story, I had mixed reviews from people. But I like it– mostly because it is set in Ohio, so I guess I am a little bias. I also watched and finished, Goop Labs on Netflix. I am a changed woman after watching it. It has me taking cold showers, eating healthier, wanting to do energy work. Each episode was very informative and interesting. I highly suggest watching it– Warning: the episode about female anatomy does have some visual elements that may be uncomfortable to some.
This weekend I have nothing on the agenda except to prepare for this big photo shoot I am doing this upcoming week. I am so excited to see how it turns out!! I am also planning on going to Pearl by Lela Rose pop-up “Flower Shoppe” located at 66 Greenwich Ave. sometime tomorrow– tomorrow is the last day. I also want to go to the Museum of FIT. They currently have an exhibition on how classical ballet has had an influence on fashion. I love it when my two worlds collide! The exhibition runs until April, so I do have plenty of time to see it if for some reason I do not have time to this weekend. Other than that nothing planned– drinks with friends, brunch maybe. Who knows!
Have a wonderful weekend xo
