Happy Friday! Surprise I am still in New York. This past Monday I was supposed to be heading home to Ohio, but something came up that delayed my travels. In all honesty, I am glad to have had another week. I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to New York, even if it is only for a few months.
Since my travel was pushed back I decided to get another COVID test. Last week I waited 2 hours in line for a rapid test, this time I got the PCR test which I scheduled an appointment for. The PCR test is more accurate as it is taken to a lab. Both tests came back negative, which I knew they would. I haven’t had any symptoms and have been pretty vigilant about staying home. I have only seen friends twice since February, both times at the park. I haven’t been on a date or gone to a restaurant or bar. I do walk around and go into stores, but always wear my mask. Still, you never know how or when or if you get the virus. Although I am going home for a little less than 2 months, my parents and I are not painting the town red. We are having Thanksgiving with just the 3 of us and not our entire family. May 2021 be a much better year for us all.
Did you see The Rockefeller Tree has arrived! If you have not, please go google it…. an accurate depiction of 2020. People are calling it the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree. I went uptown this past Wednesday to get a sneak peek at it. Unfortunately, it was covered with scaffolding as they work on cleaning it up and decorating. I am sure it is going to look beautiful once it is finished, but it has made for some great memes. There was a little owl that traveled with the tree. I really hope they take him back to his natural habitat. He must be so frightened! He looks like a baby owl, which means he is separated from his mother. His home was cut down, then he traveled in a dark compartment for 2 days and ended up in New York. The little guy is currently being treated at a wildlife rehabilitation facility, and I am sure they are taking good care of him. I just hope they do the right thing by sending him back and not put him in the Central Park Zoo.
When I went uptown to view the tree I noticed that SAKS was fully decorated for the holidays. I decided to walk up 5th avenue to see if any other stores were already decorated. There were a few; notably Cartier and The Plaza. The Plaza has their large wreaths out but still has the scaffolding as it has had for the past 3 years. I took a peek inside and their tree is not out yet. I am not sure if they are waiting to do it or if they are skipping the tree this year as it does attract a lot of traffic. Bergdorfs has not displayed their holiday windows yet, but what they currently have is worth seeing in my opinion. Some really beautiful dresses. Although this year will not be like any other, it is nice to see some normalcy of holiday cheer.
What I am watching: Last weekend I decided to watch Dash and Lily on Netflix. I thought it was going to be a Christmas movie, but turns out it’s a mini-series. I ended up watching the entire series in one sitting, I couldn’t get enough! It is darling!! It’s about two teenagers in NYC who communicate through a journal that they hide around the city. I do not want to give too much away, but highly suggest watching it.
I also watched the Holidate on Netflix, the one with Emma Roberts (who I like). I did enjoy the movie but it’s not for everyone. I can’t believe I am about to type this but…. I could have gone without Kristin Chenoweth’s character. I understand the importance of her character and what it means for Sloane’s life lesson, but it made the movie worse I thought. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie. I laughed, I cheered, I got all hopeless romantic doe-eyed, but I also thought this is not good at certain parts. The Easter scene when the kids run down the hill made me laugh out loud. I suggest watching this if you are looking for a fun Christmas movie.
What I bought: It was time for a new book as I devoured Bringing Down The Duke. I really enjoyed it so I rushed out and bought Evie Dunmore’s newest book (and the sequel to Bringing Down The Duke) A Rouge of One’s Own. I am only a few pages in but since I already know most of the characters, it’s easier to get into. I do not want to get too into detailing the synopsis of either book but I will say it is set in London around 1870. The time when women were actively trying to get more freedom and the right to vote. Although it’s about women’s suffrage it’s more of a love story. Both books are romance novels. Think Pride and Prejudice with more scandalous intimate detailing.
Yesterday I put on my IG stories another poll to help me decide between fashion choices. This time it was the same blouse but in different colors – blush and black. Black won by a landslide, which I wasn’t surprised. I was leaning towards black but also thought the blush was pretty. Right now I have in mind wearing the blouse with my silver slip skirt for Christmas Eve dinner.
As mentioned I will be heading back home to Ohio for the next few months. I am planning on coming back to New York at the beginning of January. I am driving back to Ohio on Sunday, so my weekend will be filled with packing and cleaning. I do plan on watching the Ohio State Football game. I will also take my long walks to get fresh air and to enjoy the city one last time in 2020.
Have a wonderful weekend xo
