“and too often we forget we are worthy of our love too”
-Dhiman
Happy Friday! Like most of America, NYC has been experiencing a snowstorm these past few days. Although I do enjoy the snow, I am hoping this is the last of it. I am ready for sunshine and floral dresses. It’s getting harder to be stuck indoors, especially after the year we have had. Still, I think the falling snow is beautiful to see.
It was nice to have a 3-day weekend. I enjoyed the extra day to sleep in, read my book, and relax. I had a busy week, so a little relaxation rejuvenated me prior to what lay ahead. Most of my week was desk work, as usual, and running errands. On top of that I enjoyed watching NYFW shows from the comfort of my couch. I completely forgot it was Fashion Week here in New York until I saw it pop-up on my Instagram feed. I instantly felt a tinge of sadness for not being there. I miss going to Fashion Week; sitting at the shows watching models walk down the runway wearing the most beautiful articles of clothing, mingling with people at presentations, or running my hands through the fabrics at showrooms for press previews. I even miss attending all of the crazy, jam-packed events NYFW has to offer. I am hoping by the time September is here I will be able to attend a few shows in person for the spring collections. Although I wasn’t physically at the shows this season I did watch a few on social media and looked at images from Getty after the shows.
I was lucky to be invited to the private preview of Lafayette148 to view the fall 21 collection through Zoom. What I do like about attending shows on Zoom (and usually you get the same information at press previews) is hearing from the brand on their inspiration for the collection. You listen to the designers on what type of aesthetic they were aiming for. For fall, Lafayette has a lot of monochromatic looks with earthy tones. It’s bringing things back to nature and being inspired by the outdoors. I think we are all longing for the outdoors in one way or another, so I think this theme is spot on. The garments were beautiful, mostly solid colors with a few patterns here and there. The tall boots are what I really have my eye on!
What I am watching: Documentaries! I am currently into watching documentaries about musicians or bands. I have always been interested in the history of music– even took a course in college called The History of Rock ‘n Roll. Which I got an A in, thank you. I, of course, started my quest for more musical knowledge with a documentary about Dolly Parton on Netflix called Here I am. I am a huge fan of Dolly Parton, which you may already know by now. I love her music, her personality, her genuine love and care for people and God, and of course her looks. She is a musical genius and business woman. Watching the documentary I already knew most of what was said– this isn’t my first Dolly doc. — but it goes into a little more detail about how she is a lyrical genius. I mean she can create an entire hit song instantly. The next documentary I started (and am currently still watching) is the 6 part series about the Grateful Dead called Long Strange Trip on Amazon Prime. I think I experience second-hand acid trips while watching it, ha. I really like the Grateful Dead’s music but didn’t know much about the band themselves. I of course knew they were one of the top bands to emerge from the Haight-Ashbury scene. How they represented the Beatniks, creatives, the outcast of the 60’s and 70’s, and of course all the drug experimentations. But I didn’t know how they came about to be legendary, how they got started. I am not done with the docuseries, but I do wish it went into more of their creative process in writing songs. Maybe they touch on it in another episode I have yet to watch. I knew going into it that they were doing mostly improvisational work- jamming with one another- but I wanted to know about the writing process. Their lyrics are like poetry and I wish it got more into that and the inspiration behind songs. After I am finish with the Grateful Dead docuseries I have one queued up about Led Zeppelin and trying to find one about Elvis. Feel free to pass along a great documentary you have seen!
What I bought: I recently bought this floral skirt to wear this spring and summer. I can wear it while running errands, out on dates, or drinks in the park with friends. I am excited for warmer weather so I can wear it all of the time! Along with the skirt I bought these nude (blush) earrings. Something I can wear with anything to any occasion. Another item I bought this past week was a new book. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for at the book store, then stumbled up The Light After The War. I was instantly drawn to it. It’s inspired by a true story of two jewish teenage girls from Budapest who escaped Auschwitz and are now living in Naples, Italy. The book is about after the war and how these two best friends are trying to rebuild their lives as well as trying to find friends and family members who disappeared during the war. I am only a few pages into the book but already love it!
This weekend I have nothing planned except to enjoy my docuseries and perhaps find another movie to watch. If weather permits I will do my weekly long walk somewhere in the city.
Have a wonderful weekend xo
