“a fresh start isn’t a new place, it’s a new mindset.”

Happy Friday! Another week down and one more closer to hopefully the end of this pandemic. Does anyone else have a renewed sense of hope now that the vaccine is here and places are starting to reopen? I have a spring in my step and I am finally feeling hopeful for the future.
Speaking of places opening, on April 2nd New York will open Art and Entertainment Venus at 33% capacity. You know what that means? Give my regards to Broadway….. I’ve been dreaming about the day when I can finally sit in a theatre and watch people sing and dance on stage. But besides my own selfish reasons for wanting to be submerged in showtunes, the men and women of the arts have really struggled over the past year. They were the first to have been hit hard by COVID. Many without income and had to move out of the city. I am happy that they will be back in action soon, doing what they love.
Did you watch the Golden Globes? I love awards season; even this makeshift Zoom one. It’s definitely not the same and it feels a bit awkward, but what else am I doing to do on a Sunday night. There are a few perks to the Zoom awards: seeing inside actors homes, seeing their children and family react to winning, and of course seeing pets in the background. What I miss is the red carpet and actors dressing to the nines. Seeing a dress beautifully orchestrated on the red carpet like the blue strapless star embellished ball gown from Oscar de la Renta that Kaley Cuoco wore, and the stunning green lurex Dior dress with cape that Anya Taylor-Joy wore. To see these beautiful gowns full length, swaying as the actress walks…..I miss that. I also miss the men dressing up…. I am looking at you Jason Sudeikis. Although completely on trend for quarantine, he could have thrown on a white button up and a blazer. Anyway, a few other dresses that made my jaw hit the floor was Amanda Seyfried in this custom silk floral Oscar de la Renta and Elle Fanning looking stunning in this mint color satin Gucci dress that looked like Old Hollywood.
This past week was the same old, same old. I did have a photoshoot with my photographer Lauren around Greenwich. It was SO cold. The wind at times was unbearable. Anyway, we shot in front of Pinto Garden which has this beautiful floral design for their outdoor dinning. While we were shooting I kept hearing someone whistle. As any woman alive will contest, it’s not an abnormal thing to hear while walking down the street– especially in a city. But something caught my eye and I looked up across the street to see two guys hanging out the window taking photos and videos of me. I yelled to stop and that they don’t have my permission to take my photo. But they wouldn’t stop. They kept whistling, making noises while holding their cameras (a DSLR) and phones my way. Even Lauren my photographer had to step in and tell them to stop. They still wouldn’t. I get that I am outside and it isn’t technically an invasion of privacy. I also understand that they are mocking me. But when I tell them to stop they should have stopped. It was creepy and made me feel uncomfortable. It’s two men photographing a woman without her consent, who repeatedly told them to stop. I don’t know what they are going to do with the photos and video. I wasn’t doing anything crazy except stand in front of flowers. I know I am probably making a bigger deal out of it than I should, but it really made me feel uncomfortable with the whistling and the recording. In general being whistle at or hit on by strange men while walking down the street is uncomfortable for us women. It’s not ok.
What I am watching: Started watching WandaVision and am obsessed! It really is as good as everyone says. I am a Marvel fan so maybe that does help. You do not necessarily need to watch all the Marvel movies to understand what is going on, but it does help to give a background on the characters and what they went through. The show is so good but my only complaint is that the episodes are short. I don’t know if that’s because it’s suppose to resemble a sitcom which are usually only a half hour long, but we are in a pandemic and I want a full hour.
I also started to rewatch The Wonder Years. I loved it as a kid and watching it brings back a lot of great memories. First I am surprised at how terrible the quality is compared to today’s current shows. It’s wild to think how much technology has grown in just 30 years and to think where it will be in the future. Anyway, it’s nice to go down memory lane and rewatch a classic show. For the most part I have remembered every episode I’ve seen so far, but it never registered how progressive it was at the time. I mean episode 2 Kevin and Paul are obsessed with learning about sex and the female body as 12 year olds. In the 80’s for a kids show that seems a little ahead of its time. Maybe I am wrong. TV back then was not as open about taboo things as much as it is today. Anyway, I still greatly dislike Wayne, so that at least has not changed.
What I bought: I went on a little shopping spree this past week. First I bought these sliders and this barre ball from Obé. I have been religiously doing their classes on-line and noticed recently that a lot of the instructors are using sliders. I tried to makeshift with towels but it’s not the same. I have also started doing barre classes again which include exercises using a ball. It helps with form as well as levels up a movement. Next, J.Crew is current having 50% off select swim (ends tonight), so naturally I bought a swimsuit that was excluded from the promo. I bought this high-waisted bike bottoms and this rib bandeau top in pink. I like to mix and match my swimsuits. I did buy this white beach coverup dress that is part of the 50% off sale and am excited to wear it this summer. Last but not least, I bought this floral maxi dress that is part of this week’s Simply Smitten Top Picks. After selecting it for the top pick I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I bought it.
This weekend I actually have plans! I am heading to the High Line Nine to the see the I’ll Meet You There exhibit. Modern Press Flowers painted Steinway and Sons pianos in floral prints. It’s a come as you please exhibit (so no need to purchase a ticket or select a time) until March 14th. Besides the exhibit I am planning on going to Bryant Park since I haven’t been there in a year and a half. I also want to stop by the new Loeffler Randall store in SOHO. And of course I am going to watch the Oprah interview with Harry and Megan.
Have a wonderful weekend xo
