Happy Friday!! Spring is finally here! I’ve put away my puffy coat and welcomed with open arms lighter jackets and fleece pullovers. My windows are open and my plants are starting to look alive again. People are out and about, someone was loudly singing Karaoke to “In The Air Tonight” on my street while people yelled out their windows to shut ** up. New York is back baby!Since the weather was decently nice out I was able to go on a run along the west side river pathway. I realized on my run/walk that I do not venture out onto the docks. The dock right by City Vineyard has been revamped and it looks amazing. There are areas to sit and have lunch or lounge and read a book. There are bench swings to sit and chat with a friend if you wanted. In the middle there is some sort of court that I couldn’t quite figure out. There wasn’t a basketball hoop or any sort of net for a particular sport. Just a concrete area where a bunch of toddlers ran amok with their tricycle gang. Anyway, they did a lovely job with the area and I can’t wait to spend a nice spring and summer afternoon on a lounge chair looking over the Hudson river.
Are you watching March Madness? I filled out a bracket for fun. Although my mom did forced me to send my bracket over to her to compare it with hers and my dads. So I guess I am sort of in a pool but with no wager….. like my dad is really going to pay me bet money. Anyway, I was winning after the first round but it went down hill from there. I have only watched the Ohio State game (yikes) and both of Ohio University’s games. I went to OU and am proud of how far the boys went! I wish I was on Court Street celebrating, what fun they must have had! I haven’t watched any of the other games and most likely will not except for possibly the championship. It depends when it’s on and what I am doing. It’s been fun, however, to following along with my bracket. Gives me something to do. I have Gonzaga winning it all, in case you were wondering.
What I am watching: I started watching Virgin River on Netflix. It has been a recommended show from Netflix since it came out but never got around to watching it. Honestly, I thought it looked a little boring. However, I kept it in the back of my mind for a possible show to watch in case I ran out of shows / entertainment. Then my cousin texted me and asked if I had watched it and that someone recommended it to her. We have similar taste in shows, so I took that as a sign to start watching it. I have to day, I am hooked!! I am only on ep. 6 season 1 but I am really enjoying it! It feels a little Hallmark-ish which I like. What I find interesting is that it’s the SAME EXACT storyline as Hart of Dixie with a few tweaks. It’s also not a comedy and a little more grown up. Even Tim Matheson, who is in both Hart of Dixie and Virgin River, plays the exact same character- a doctor who doesn’t want the new girl to take over his practice. Still I highly recommend!
Last weekend I watched Soleil Moon Frye’s documentary on Hulu called Kid90. Frye is well known for playing Punky Brewster is the late 80s. As a child actor and a teen in the 80s/90s she has many famous friends. Frye would carry around her video camera as well as kept diaries and voice recordings, all documenting her youth. It’s funny to think of someone documenting everything prior to social media. It wasn’t for Tik Tok or likes on Instagram, it was for fun. It is filled with nostalgic moments of being a kid at that time. I was kid / early teenager in the 90s and I loved that this was the period of childhood. When you could be a kid, run around and have fun with your friends. The freedom we had back then. There are a lot of famous faces like Brian Austin Green, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, David Arquette, who do interviews during the documentary about that time period and who are also shown in Frye’s home videos as kids/teenagers. It also brought back familiar faces like Jonathan Brandis. What I also liked about the documentary is that it goes deeper into what teenagers faced at the time, especially young Hollywood; the depression and drug use. Unfortunately a lot of lives were taken away. Back then no one talked about mental health, it was taboo. Now it’s weird if you do not have a therapist. Frye talks about her own struggles with partying too much as well as being a young woman and being sexualized by Hollywood. It’s relatable and the right amount of nostalgia for that time period. This is a great documentary for Gen X and Elder Millennials.
What I bought: I wasn’t looking to purchase anything this week but on a whim I bought this linen dress from Reformation. I thought the light green color was pretty and it’s a dress I can wear throughout summer and early fall. It would be cute to wear on Easter, out to brunch with friends, date night, or even around town running errands.
This weekend I have nothing planned except scouting locations. I have a shoot coming up this week and I haven’t finalized the location yet. This weekend I will be walking all over Manhattan trying to find the perfect spot. I spent all day yesterday scrolling through social media trying to find restaurants that have cute outdoor dinning. I have a few narrowed down but am opened to anywhere– wherever the inspiration strikes. Other than location scouting I will be reading my new book that I am loving, possibly going for a run, and just enjoying the spring weather!
Have a wonderful weekend xo
