Happy Friday!! I am back in Columbus, Ohio for the weekend visiting my parents and to ride in the Pelotonia. It’s been a great few days spending time with my parents and my nieces. I love being home with family.
As mentioned, I am riding in the Pelotonia this weekend. The Pelotonia is an annual bike ride here in Columbus for cancer research. Every single dollar raised by riders in donations goes to The Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center, James Cancer Hospital, and Solove Research Institute, including the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology. I am riding with my dad for this last ride before he retires this year. One last time he can yell at me for 2 hours telling me it’s not a race but a ride. Sorry I am competitive. Anyway, we are riding 20 miles Saturday morning. Every time I have been home this spring and summer we have rode our bikes around the neighborhood to prepare, my dad more so than me. I have been training by running and going to DanceBody; trying to get my stamina back up from so much time off during quarantine. I am not nervous for the physicality of the ride but more so about navigating the path with a bunch of other riders around me. Although I am riding with my dad for his last time, I am also doing this for everyone who had to deal with cancer amongst the pandemic. We were all so worried about COVID and trying to donate money to small shops, COVID research and more, that other well-known diseases took a side seat. Cancer is still here and very prevalent. Every dollar donated is one step closer to a cancer free world. If you would like, please donate any amount to my ride— it would greatly be appreciated!!
Besides riding around the neighborhood like I am Lance Armstrong, we’ve mostly be relaxing at home. I flew in Wednesday late afternoon. All day yesterday my mom and I babysat my 8 month old niece. She is the cutest! I think she spent the entire day staring at me. She is comfortable around me, does not cry, but is also weary of me since I haven’t been around that much. I also resemble her mom (my sister), so she probably is trying to figure how that is possible. Anyway, she is the cutest little thing that I love so much. She doesn’t do much, being only 8 months old, except put things in her mouth, sleep, and crawl. She can now pull herself up and walk if she has a surface like a coffee table.
Before I left for Ohio I had an acupuncture session at WTHN. I used to go to WTHN once a month before the pandemic hit. It would really help with my overall wellness and aches and pains from working out. I have shoulder, hip, knee, and back problems….thanks to dancing….. My muscles tend to inflame when overused. I also have a slight tear in my left shoulder. Acupuncture helps out so much, even just one session. Sometimes I would go in just for overall wellness; stress, digestion, insomnia, etc. There are so many wonderful benefits from acupuncture. The acupuncturist I had was fantastic. She listened to my pulse on my right wrist and said “you are not getting any sleep, you are extremely tired”. She could tell just from my pulse and was completely right. I was extremely tired that day and haven’t been able to sleep. They can also tell what is going on with your body by looking at your tongue. Highly suggest going to get acupuncture.
What I am watching: I am still very much into the Olympics. It seems that is the only thing I have been watching these past two weeks. I am annoyed by NBC and other stations that are broadcasting the Olympics because they are not showing all of the sports. I want to see more of the artistic swimming, rhymtic gymnastics, and Equestrian. I wasn’t able to find a station in NYC that was broadcasting these sports. Luckily I found one here in Columbus that is. Still I am loving the Olympics and will miss it when it is over. I read an article that said this is the nicest Olympics; that the athletes are so nice to each other, no matter what country they represent. I noticed the camaraderie as well when watching. This is what the world needs right now— seeing kindness and compassion, even amongst competition.
What I bought: Decided to buy a few athleisure / loungewear items this week. I bought these drawstring shorts (on sale) in dusty ivory to lounge in. I want something besides sweatpants and housedresses to lounge around the house in, especially this fall and winter. To match my shorts I bought this cotton-cashmere pullover in ivory (on sale). I’ve also been on a biker shorts kick lately and bought these pink ones (on sale) to wear out and about, maybe to workout in.
As mentioned, this weekend I will be riding in the Pelotonia. Tonight is the kick off party at the Columbus Crew stadium. The Crew has a newly rebuilt stadium that just opened up about a month ago, which will be nice to see. Not that I have ever been to a Crew game before (don’t hate me Columbus friends!). Saturday morning will be the ride and in the afternoon I will probably head to the pool with my parents. Then Sunday my niece is being baptized during church service. Other than the mentioned, I will be relaxing, reading, and watching the Olympics. Maybe play tennis with my dad and continue to ride our bikes. Just enjoying being around family.
Have a wonderful weekend xo
