Happy Friday and Happy Mother’s Day! I am very grateful it is the weekend. This week has been trying, and it has felt so long. I’ve been running around with my head cut off it feels. I am looking forward to the weekend and taking a moment to pause.
Did you enjoy the Met Gala? I have to say over all I liked people’s outfits. There were a lot of people not on theme. I personally do not understand why Kim Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Julianne Moore went as celebrity Icons. Yes it was pretty neat that Kim got to wear Marilyn’s dress, but Marilyn Monroe was not alive during the Gilded Age. It’s one thing to be off theme, but it’s another to just create your own theme for the night. My favorite look of the night was, of course, Blake Lively’s Versace gown. I could watch them unravel her skirt a hundred times (and also watch Ryan’s reaction- so cute!). I also thought Vanessa Hudgens (in Moschino) did a great job modernizing the Gilded Age fashion. Same with Laura Harrier in her shimmer black Glemaud dress. Shawn Mendes was the best dressed male in his Tommy Hilfiger suit and coat. Very all American and so handsome!
Of course I loved the looks of Kaia Gerber in Alexander McQueen, Camila Mendes in Ami, and Maude Apatow in Miu Miu. The beaded gowns were beautiful and stunning to look at, but were they on theme? One can argue they are, as Gilded Age fashion was about luxury. Many women wore gowns with metal/ crystal beads woven into their silk skirts. So we can argue these gowns are a modern take of the Gilded Age fashion, but isn’t that just fashion in general. Isn’t everything we wear a modernize version of trends from the past. These gowns, however stunningly beautiful, is something we all have seen before. Each gown (maybe not Kaia’s) could have been worn to the Oscar’s or the Golden Globes. They can be taken out of context and still fit into today’s social norms. So is that on theme? Does one have to be precise like SJP or Billie Eilish in their corsets and bustles? Are all gowns on theme because they are a true adaptation of historical fashion. I know I am reading way too into this, but it’s fun for me to ponder and discuss. I’ll have my people call Anna Wintour’s people.
Tuesday evening I went uptown to the Theatre District to see the musical Girl From The North Country. The entire musical is set to Bob Dylan songs. I am a fan of Bob Dylan, so was very surprised there were a few songs I did not know. Maybe I am not as well acquainted with his music as I thought. Anyway, the show is set in 1934 in Duluth, Minnesota where the Laine family owns a Bed and Breakfast. Unfortunately the hotel is being foreclosed by the bank. We follow along the Laine family’s, as well as their guests, individual journey on the last few days. I enjoyed this musical. There are both humorous and heartbreaking moments. The music was of course my favorite part. I loved how they rearranged some of the songs to make it unique to the show. The musical is a limited engagement and will end on June 11th.
For some reason this past week I have felt very tired. Even during my workouts I felt lethargic. Maybe I need rest. Yesterday I went to the Vionic event where they had a 30 minute meditation/ recovery workout with trainer Ciara Lucas. I needed the few mindful minutes, especially on a rooftop during a beautiful day. As well as doing recovery stretches for my muscles. Sometimes I overwork myself, which usually results in an injury. I am trying to listen to my body right now and take a few days off to recover. Luckily it will be raining this weekend so I will not be spending all day walking around the city.
The Vionic event was nice. It felt good to be at a press preview, chatting about upcoming collections. Prior to the event I wasn’t fully familiar with Vionic. I knew they were a shoe company that produced comfortable footwear. I didn’t realize they were founded by a Podiatrist. Since the heart of the company is about foot care, their shoes are created to help with and prevent foot pains and aches. Each shoe has an arch support as well as comfort and stability. As someone who has plantar fasciitis, these shoes are ideal to relieve and prevent pain in my heels. They were kind enough to send home with me a pair of sneakers (in white). I am excited to wear them around the city, knowing my feet are being taken care of.
What I am watching: My parents suggested the show The Thing About Pam with Renée Zellweger. It’s based on the Dateline podcast of the investigation of Betsy Faria’s murder in 2011. It is definitely worth a watch. It’s so bizarre the things Pam did (Betsy’s best friend) that it almost feels made up. Renée Zellweger does an amazing job as Pam. I love how they have the guy from Dateline narrate the story– sometimes it feels like he is narrating a Christmas story. Anyway, there are only 6 episodes so it is an easy binge.
What I bought: On a whim I bought a matching workout set. I bought this sports bra and these high rise leggings in pistachio. They are currently on sale– 40% off— so I bought them. I love the coloring and hope it looks good on my skin tone. It may wash me out, but we will see. I am not sure if I will workout in them or just wear it as a casual everyday athleisurewear. To add to the wellness theme I bought this retinol eye stick. I have been reading through the reviews and people seem to notice a difference around their eyes, so fingers cross it helps with the bags under my eyes. I unfortunately have my family genetics where I have very thin skin under my eyes and it looks as if I have a black eye. Oh the joys of getting older. Hoping the retinol eye stick will help reduce fine lines and plump up the skin under my eyes.

This weekend I want to relax, it seems my body needs it. I may go for a run if the weather permits it on Sunday, but other than that I want to take it easy. I will watch movies, nurse my body, sleep, read, and be lazy. Oh and of course watch the Kentucky Derby!! I love the Derby so am very excited to watch the race. Unfortunately I will not be celebrating Mother’s Day with my mom, but will FaceTime her to chat.
Have a wonderful weekend xo
