Happy Friday….the 13th! I recently learned that Friday the 13th isn’t as ominous as we have grown to believe. It derives from the 13 attendees of the Last Supper leading to the following day of the crucifixion of Christ (a Friday). That is why many of us (in the Western world) believe it to be a day of bad luck. However, if you believe in astrology the day means “Divine Feminine”. The number 13 means renewal; rebirth, fertility, and creation. It landing on a Friday (day of Venus) indicates a great day for romantic and creative energy. In some cultures the number 13 is lucky. So if you were worried about it being Friday the 13th, it may not be as bad as you think.
Last weekend I did not spend Mother’s Day with my mom unfortunately. I did chat with her on the phone and sent her a card with a little gift. We will celebrate both Mother’s Day and Father’s Day when I am in Columbus in a few weeks. To honor my mom I treated myself a little. Kate Spade was handing out planters of Gerbera daisies around Meatpacking. Daisies are one of my favorite flowers so I had to take them home. I opted for pink Gerbera daisies in a planter that says “love you, mum”. I know I am not a mom but I am an aunt so in my book I deserve these flowers. I also bought myself the most delicious brownie from Beatnic — the chocolate chocolate brookie (gf). It was heaven on earth but also very dangerous as it’s now all I can think about.
Besides treating myself on Mother’s Day, this past week I had a meeting with a brand I am going to work with. I am excited for this new partnership and can’t wait to start sharing items from their spring collection. I also went to my usual Tuesday morning DanceBody class. I now know the dances pretty well, so I am having fun with it. I also went to their new strength and stability class this morning. It has become my new Friday morning routine. It’s a great way to wind down from the week and also kick off the weekend. If you want to try DanceBody online at home- take 50% off your first month with code: DBMAGGIE50. Trust me you will love it!
My cousin got engaged over the weekend!! I am so happy for him. His fiancé is wonderful and truly the perfect match for him. My cousin is a great guy– he even saved my life when I was a baby, 18 months to be exact. We were playing by the creek in my grandmother’s backyard– mind you this was the 80s so not a big deal. I slipped and fell into the creek. I was face down, swallowing the creek water. My cousin jumped in and grabbed me. So yeah, I owe him my life and can’t think of anyone else more deserving of love. They are getting married in December and I can’t wait to celebrate these two love birds!
Wednesday evening I went out on the town. A friend of mine is part of an organization called The Water Boys— founded by NFL player Chris Long from the Philadelphia Eagles. The organization’s mission is to bring clean water to communities in need– focusing primarily in East Africa, but I believe they also work domestically here in the states. The evening was a fundraiser at Penny Farthing in the East Village. They had a raffle of items including signed items from Chris Long, as well as some Water Boys shirts, a 5-class pack to Barry’s Bootcamp and a few other goodies. I did not win anything, but honestly I didn’t want to. I mean what am I going to do with a Philadelphia Eagles jersey? Haha! I am perfectly happy with just donating. Anyway, the entire evening was a lot of fun and it was great to meet new people and catch up with friends. I also enjoyed hearing more about The Water Boys organization and all of the wonderful things they have done for communities in East Africa. They are doing incredible work!
What I am watching: A few weeks ago I started season 2 of the Flight Attendant. I am very much enjoying the season and think it still holds the excitement of the first. I really do not know where the series is going– in a good way. I can’t predict how Cassie gets out of this mess and who is impersonating her. I usually save the new episodes for Friday nights, so am excited to see what happens next tonight.
I watched the new Spiderman movie No-Way Home this past week. I know I am months behind in seeing it, but wanted to wait until I was able to rent the movie. I really enjoyed it although I found it to be sad. I loved that they brought back Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire- I guess this isn’t a spoiler anymore since it has been all over social media. Overall I enjoyed the movie and suggest it!
What I bought: Last week I mentioned I bought a new pair of leggings with a matching sports bra. I absolutely love the feel of the items and the beautiful pistachio coloring. I bought a small in both. The leggings fit perfectly and the waist it really high which I love. I have a long torso (short abdomen, long pelvis), so really need the extra inch. Honestly, I want my leggings to reach right under my bra like Urkel. That’s how high up I like them. It stems from my ballet days when I would wear my tights that high up over my leotard. I am just used to it. Anyway, the sports bra does fit but I ended up buying a medium to compare. I mostly want to compare the length more than the fit. Both items are currently on sale and under $40.
Another activewear item I bought this past week is this pink gingham tank top. Thought it would be cute to wear either working out or frolicking around the city in athleisurewear. Would even be cute to wear with a white tennis skirt. The gingham top is on sale and under $20. I bought a size small.
