“Make space for the next version of you”

-anon

Happy Friday! It was a socially exciting week! I actually left my apartment to mingle with others. I’ve been trying to push myself to get out more and meet new people.

Monday evening I went to my first ever book club. Guest of a Guest host a chic book club event once a month at their cute townhouse in the West Village. For those of you who may not be familiar with Guest of a Guest, they are a social and cultural website– mostly about the who’s who of NYC and the happenings around town. I have been a reader of GofaG for a long time now so when I saw that they started hosting a book club, I had to join. The attire for the evening was cocktail chic. I wore an old byTIMo dress that I had– a maxi floral dress that has a metallic gold thread woven in. At the event they had an assortment of wines from Wölffer Wines (one of my favorites) and delicious hors d’oeuvres.

The book we read for this month’s get together was Social Engagement by Avery Carpenter Forrey. Guest of a Guest gave us cue cards of questions about the book to spark conversations. We would mingle while discussing the book and other cultural events. It’s basically a cocktail party that moonlights as a book club. The author, Avery Carpenter Forrey, was there for a quick Q&A between her and literary consultant Mackenzie Newcomb (who co-hosts the book club events). Anyway, the entire night was so much fun! I loved meeting new people and discussing books we love.

The next morning I woke up early to go to DanceBody. I was very fatigued. Gone are the days when I used to be able to drink until 1am, then turn around and take an 8am dance class. That was my life in college…le sigh. Anyway, after DanceBody I went to my dermatologist for a check up on the healing process of my face. If you remember a few months ago I had a misfortunate incident with a microdermabrasion tool that left my face cut up. It’s pretty much healed except for two little spots that are still a little raw. I also have a small scar and hyperpigmentation. We are trying to get rid of those as well.

I finally finished painting my mirror!! I am so proud of myself for accomplishing something new and for how it turned out! It turned out exactly how I envisioned it! I really enjoyed this entire process of painting and using a stencil. You can see my quick video of the process here. I want to do more painting! I am planning on painting my tv console– if I can physically move my tv stand off and onto the ground. It’s really heavy and I don’t know if I can do it alone. We will see! My plan is to paint next week before my parents come into town and then have my dad help me move it back onto the console. I think picking it up will be much harder task than putting it down. I am not planning on doing anything fancy to it– no stencils this time. I have green paint left over from my mirror so I want to use it to paint my console.

Last night I went out with my friends Jackie and Sarah. We haven’t seen each other since our trip to the Hamptons last month. We first tried to go to The Polo Bar- Ralph Lauren’s restaurant- but they wouldn’t let us in without a reservation. Even though all we wanted to do was grab a drink at the bar. So we decided to hop across the street to King Cole Bar in the St. Regis hotel. I love this bar! It’s a classic staple in New York as it has been around since 1932. The King Cole Bar has a famous Maxfield Parrish mural that hangs behind the bar- an illustration of a King surrounded by jesters and guards. It’s a must see. After our drinks at King Cole we ventured uptown to Bemelmans Bar-– another legendary longe bar in NYC located inside The Carlyle Hotel. The place was very lively last night. We sat at the bar chatting while listening to a pianist play. People were chumming up at the bar or enjoying their dinners in the cafe. It was such a fun night! I love a good classic old-school NYC evening!

What I am watching: Speaking of books, I watched Red, White, and Royal Blue. The movie adaptation of the book. I haven’t read the book– it has been on my list and I never got around to it. I do know that the book, as always, has more to it. That characters and important scenes were cutout in the movie. Still, I LOVED the movie! I thought it was so cute. Highly recommend!

What I bought: The only thing I bought this week was a new book. I am now reading Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum. It’s like Gossip Girl meets Desperate Housewives. It follows rich Upper East Siders who flock to Fire Island during the summer season. We know right off the bat that someone dies, but we do not know who and how. I am about 40 pages in and really enjoying it!

Top Seller of the Week: midi denim skirt— selling out fast!

This weekend I am going to take it easy. As much as I am trying to socialize, I can’t go out more than once or twice a week if that. I need rest and recuperation, haha. I do have to run a few errands, so will probably just frolic around after completing them. As well as go on my usual weekend runs, read more of my book, and do a massive clean of my apartment. And then veg out as much as I can.

Have a wonderful weekend xo
