One of my favorite things to do is to discuss books with fellow literary lovers. Everyday I set a time to read whatever current book I have on hand; devouring the plot line, moved by the characters. However, the only resource I had to discuss these books were in the comment section of #BookTox. I tried to find a book club to join, but came up short. That is until I discovered Guest of a Guest book club. Now I have a monthly book club I can go to to not only discuss the book of the month, but to also get dressed up for a cocktail party.
A book club that is moonlighting as a cocktail party? Count me in! That is right up my alley! Just like your typical book club, there is a specific book we all read for that particular month. We then get together to chitchat about the book, sometimes with a Q&A with the author. It’s a great way to meet fellow book lovers and to dissect the storyline. Unlike most book clubs, we do all of this in our cocktail attire sipping champagne and eating hor d’oeuvres.
Finding an outfit to wear to the book club can be a little tricky. My first time at the event I was worried I was going to be both overdressed and underdressed. I ended up wearing an old smock dress from byTimo that has a beautiful gold threading (seen here). For this month’s gathering I wore my new drapey shirtdress from J.Crew.

This lustrous shirtdress was the perfect item to wear to the book club. It has elements of both workwear and cocktail attire. It comes in different colors, but I think the blue is stunning. The luxurious sheen gives a silky look to the dress; giving it an elevated feel. I get so many compliments on the color and the dress every time I wear it. It feels amazing on the skin and comfortable to wear. I am wearing a size 2 for reference which is true to size. Shop more elevated shirtdresses below.
