Happy Friday! It is finally snowing! We haven’t had snow in almost two years, and now this entire week has been a winter wonderland. While I am not particularly a fan of the winter season, I do love snow. It’s been lovely walking through snow flurries and seeing the pretty powder on trees.
Last weekend was my first photoshoot as a professional photographer! I shot a friend of mine, Patricia, for her birthday. She celebrated her birthday at the Plaza hotel with 3 of her friends. I shot them in their pajamas and in their evening gowns heading to the Opera. It was such a fun shoot! It being my first time, there were a few things I noticed that I still need to improve upon. Going into it I knew it wouldn’t be perfect, it being my first time. But I had so many ideas running through my head on how to shoot them inside their hotel room and out in the lobby. I was high on creativity. Shooting inside a hotel room is tricky. You have little space to move around- it was very challenging. I found myself in the closet a few times trying to capture as much as I can. I am very grateful for Patricia for taking a chance on me, and hopefully this is the beginning of a successful photography business!
I went back to DanceBody this week. We learned two new dances- the ballet one and the (what I call) girl power one. I surprisingly caught on the ballet one pretty quickly. The girl power dance however is fast. It’s to the song “Baby Boy” by Beyonce. You think that song is slow until Sean Paul comes on…. I will have to spend more time at home practicing. I do love that dance so want to perfect it.
Thursday morning I had a brunch meeting with the Abbey Glass team at Soho House. I have worked with Abbey Glass before– seen here. It was so nice to finally meet Abbey and her team members that I have been communicating with. Abbey Glass is located in Atlanta, so it was nice to have them in town. Anyway, it was a lovely brunch and I got to see some of the upcoming collections– a few very exciting things happening over there in the next few months that I can’t wait to share!!
What I am watching: Last weekend I watched May December... and regret it. I thought it was a terrible movie. The acting, however, is phenomenal–I see why Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, and Charles Melton were nominated for a Golden Globe. The acting was the only good thing about the movie. If you are not familiar, the movie is loosely based off of Mary Kay Letourneau. In the late 90s Mary Kay Letourneau was charged with having an affair with her 6th grade student. They ended up getting married and having kids. May December is about making a movie about the life of Mary Kay (Gracie is the characters name). What I disliked about the movie was a few things: first being was I suppose to feel bad for Gracie (Mary Kay) because Natalie Portman’s character was also creepy and exploiting her? I don’t. It’s weirdly about how actors shadow the people they are portraying in movies and, in Natalie Portman’s case, become creepy. The other thing I didn’t like was how silly and ominous the music was the entire time. At one point Charles Melton was pruning his garden and the music made me think someone was going to come up behind and hit him over the head. It made no sense.
On a better note, I started watching The Buccaneers on AppleTV and absolutely love it! It’s a period drama (one of my favorite genres) set in the 1870s about a group of young American women sent to London to find husbands. It’s based off of a non-published book by Edith Wharton. Anyway, during the Gilded Age in America there were a lot of new money folks. At the same time a lot of the aristocratic families in Europe were losing their generational wealth. The best solution was to marry an American girl with new money. The American girls are, of course, a different breed- loud, opinionated, playful. The British didn’t know how to handle them. The show, to me, is a mixture of Bridgerton and Dickinson; Societal expectations, gossip, historically accurate yet has a modern flare to it with the music, verbiage, etc.
What I bought: Since it is cold outside and I am planning on (hopefully) shooting clients this winter season, I bought new convertible gloves. I bought these in black. It will help keep my hands warm, while still being able to use my fingers.
