“Learn to let go of what does not ask to be held”

-zahra

Happy Friday! I am home in Ohio visiting my family for a quick weekend trip. I haven’t been home since Christmas, so it’s nice to spend some time here and with my family.

I flew in yesterday afternoon, enough time to spend it with my nieces as my parents were babysitting them. We mostly played with play-doh, not too shabby of an afternoon.

Before my trip home most of my week was spent getting ready for Ohio and finishing work related stuff. I went to my usual DanceBody class which is always enjoyable. I know the dances pretty well at this point. Now it’s all about performing them.

Last weekend I went to a birthday party of one of my book club friends. It was a murder mystery party, the first I have ever been to. The party was held at the top floor of her apartment building in Brooklyn. It was the perfect party space. We had pizza, snacks, champagne, and murder.

Prior to the party we were all sent a packet of information; background on the victim, our character, and how to play the game. My character was Allison Rochester- the eldest daughter of the now deceased millionaire Rick Rochester. I was the favorite daughter, however I was having a secret affair with the chauffeur Neil. My dad disapproved of the relationship and told me to end it or I will be written out of the will and my inheritance. I ended the relationship, only to find out that Neil is now dating my younger sister Elizabeth. Oh the drama! This could be an episode of Dynasty.

When arriving at the party you are handed an envelope of questions to ask other characters and $500 (fake) to bribe people. Then halfway through the party the lights went out and another murder was revealed. We were then handed another envelope with more questions. I had an inkling at the beginning who I thought the murderer was. I did suspect a few others, but I stuck with my main suspect. At the end of the party we all wrote down who we thought the murderer was and I was the only one who guessed it right. See kids it pays to watch drama tv! I won a nice little print out award and the rights to brag.

A lot of people at the party thought I was the murderer. Which makes sense when my inheritance was in questioned. I also clapped after the second murder was revealed… it was a knee-jerk reaction. Sorry that I  enjoyed the theatrics of it all. But to others they took it as I was happy these murders were happening. The party was a mixture of people; cousins, work friends, book club friends, etc. Not everyone knew each other, so at first it was a little strange talking to people in character. The first person I chatted with whom I didn’t know was talking in character and it took me a second to figure that out. That she was not speaking of herself, but of her character. It was also a little hard to remember everything from the character synopsis. There were questions people asked me where I had no idea what Allison thought. It really didn’t matter, it was still so fun to do! If you are ever thinking of doing a murder mystery party, I say absolutely do it! It’s something different to do and you can dress in character if you like. Most of us just wore black dresses as if we were attending a funeral, some wore character costumes. It’s whatever you want.

What I am watching: I watched The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It was interesting to watch the villain origin of President Snow. It’s a little weird because you sorta root for him, but then you remember what a terrible person he becomes. I thought overall it was interesting– background on how the games started, how it has developed through the years, and of course what Snow was like as a teenager. I am left with a lot more questions– about Snow and Lucy Gray. I know there isn’t a book sequel, but I think there is  room for a second movie.

What I bought: I have been eyeing these woven ballet flats for a while and finally purchased them. I am loving this whole mesh/ open weave trend right now in flats. It adds a unique design to your outfit.
