“I have a deeply hidden and inarticulate desire for something beyond the daily life”
-Virginia Woolf
Happy Friday! Holy heat wave New York! It is hot, hot, hot outside. I love summer, so I hate to complain, but this is going to ruin the tour. The world tour 😉
Last weekend my cousin’s wife was in the town with a friend of hers. We started the day with Tea Around Town– this cute sightseeing bus tour. The interior is all pink with flowers. You sit in pink colored booths sipping on a variety of teas, eating tea party foods like scones and sandwiches, all while taking in the views of the city. They had Bridgerton-like music playing; instrumental versions of popular songs. Also had an emcee who would sing a few beloved songs like “New York, New York” while also giving up facts about buildings and structures. It was a lovely time!
After our tea party we went downtown to the Strand to explore. I haven’t been to the Strand in a very long time, it was nice to take a look around. After that we walked through Union Square and up to Flatiron to see the portal to Dublin, Ireland. There is an installation right by the Flatiron building where you can see people standing in the streets of Dublin. They can see us and we can see them. It’s pretty cool!
After more city explorations and shopping exertions, we went to an early dinner at Serendipity. Another place I haven’t been to in a very long time. Serendipity was great! I love chocolate and sweets, so can not go wrong with a visit to Serendipity. We shared a frozen hot chocolate. Overall the day was lots of fun! I always enjoy exploring the city when family or friends come into town. I get to do things I haven’t done in a while or ever.
The rest of my week was all about work, self care, and doing things that I love. I started the week off with a facial at The Brightwood Skin. I got the diamond glow facial where they use a hydra-dermabrasion treatment which exfoliates while also infusing serum into the skin. It’s a quick treatment with no downtime. It’s great to get every once in a while to get rid of all the dead skin and bacteria build up on your face.
Wednesday I went back to my sports medicine doctor to review the results of my x-ray and MRI. Good news is that there isn’t anything serious going on with my neck and traps. Nothing is compact, torn, or out of alignment. Basically my muscle is overworked. I now have to go back to PT while also doing some sort of alignment treatment (I forget the proper name). My doctor says this is the most common issue amongst his patience– due to hunching over laptops, phones, and working out. It is not chronic – thank god! He says with the right treatment we can cure it. I am happy that it is nothing serious but a part of me, who wants fast results, wishes it could be healed with one procedure. We will see in the next 6-8 weeks if it has finally healed. Here’s to hoping he gives me more drugs because that felt fantastic!
It’s my favorite time of the year!! Ballet season is back. American Ballet Theatre summer season is back at the Met Opera House. I went to see Onegin. It’s a classic ballet based off of the Russian novel Eugene Onegin. It’s a beautiful ballet filled with lots of emotion. Hee Seo danced Tatiana and was incredible. Beautifully done, I could feel her emotions from the balcony. James Whiteside danced Onegin; sharp, poised, and could portray different emotions. Highly recommend seeing!
What I am watching: Over the weekend I watched Hit Man with Glen Powell on Netflix. I enjoyed the movie. I really like Glen Powell, he is becoming a movie star not just an actor. The movie is based on a true person, but the events are not real. The storyline was fun, kept me entertain the entire time.
I watched the BRATS documentary about the Brat Pack– young actors of the 80s. I thought it was fascinating. The documentary was created by Andrew McCarthy- about how the term Brat Pack affected his life and his fellow actors. On a sociological aspect the documentary is very interesting. However, after a while I thought “there are wars, people dying, etc and you are upset someone called you a brat 40 years ago?”. However, I understand, and have experienced myself, how one comment can stick with you for life. So I get it. I look back on the Brat Pack and think how cool they were. Never once did I think that the term would have been damaging. I thought it was sorta an honor, but after listening to Andrew and others (Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez) talk about the article and the term, I see a different side. I recommend this documentary for not only the conversation, but for the nostalgia.
What I bought: My high school reunion is approaching and I have been shopping for an outfit to wear. I bought this pretty yellow floral dress as an option, but I am still going to keep shopping.
I bought this off white vest to pair with this white pleated midi skirt— on sale and under $100. Not sure how they are going to look together, haven’t yet received either one. Vest, especially long in length, are a huge trend right now and I love the way it looks with a white skirt.
