“Art and love are the same thing: It’s the process of seeing yourself in things that are not you”
-Chuck Klosterman
Happy Friday! My entire personality right now is the Olympics. I am living, breathing, and thinking about the Paris Olympics. I love it! I’m like Snoop Dogg but at home, and not getting paid.
I’ve been loving the Paris Olympics, cheering on all of the greats. I think my neighbors have heard nothing but me yelling and cheering loudly all week. What I find interesting, and delightful, about this particular Olympics is how invested in the athletes we all are. This has a lot to do with social media. Yes social media was around for 2020 and 2016, but TikTok wasn’t. These young athletes have been making some of the best content on TikTok. It’s been fun to watch them in the Olympic village, to see the behind the scenes before and after competitions, and getting to know them personally. Without social media i would never have known about Ilona Maher from the USA women’s rugby. Her TikTok’s are amazing- creating a fan out of me- to the point that I was watching women’s rugby. I never would have watched it otherwise. I didn’t even know women’s rugby was in the Olympics to begin with. It’s wonderful to see some of these less popular sports, and unknown athletes, get the recognition they deserve.
Speaking of less popular sports, another reason why I love the Olympics is because I get to watch events that I do love but never get to see; equestrian jumping, synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline. It’s been delightful to watch these sports. If I were in the summer Olympics I would either be a gymnast or do rhythmic gymnastics. Would love to twirl around and flip with a pretty ribbon. Speaking of gymnastics, how amazing was USA team?! I was ecstatic that they won gold in team competition, as well as Simone and Suni medaling for all-around. And I can’t forget my guy Steve Nedoroscik, Mr. Pommel Horse. I can’t wait to watch his individual competition.
Besides cheering on athletes, most of my week has been all about work. I had a few meetings, worked on a lot of content, and started prepping for the fall. I didn’t go to DanceBody, instead I did it through their DanceBody Live at home. I wasn’t feeling 100% (cramps) and felt it was better to do it at home. Have to learn those routines in-between cramp pains.
I went to Glosslab for a regular mani. I switched things up a little and got a light pink color. I always get red, but felt since it was summer I should go for the pink. A few days later and my nails are still in decently good shape. Why is it when I do my nails at home the color last merely a few hours, yet when I pay for it the color last for days. If you want to try Glosslab take 20% off your appt. using code MAGGIE20.
Another thing that I switched up this past week was going to Bedford Studios to do a little work. I always work from home. I get more done when I do. When I am at the coffee shop or a workspace I get distracted by people watching. Anyway, Bedford Studio is this cute little coffee shop/ workspace in the West Village. I sat down on a cozy and worked on some content while sipping my matcha. It was a nice, and much needed, change of scenery.
What I am watching: The only thing I have been watching is the Olympics. I absolutely loved the opening ceremonies. It was very French, very artsy and creative. My favorite part when it went from the cast of Les Misérables into the beheaded Marie Antoinettes singing “Ah! Ca Ira” to heavy metal then a woman on a boat comes in singing “Carmen”. C’était la perfection! Loved it! I also loved watching Celine Dion. I teared up watching her perform.
Since watching Celine give the performance of a lifetime, I thought it was a good time to watch the new I Am Celine Dion documentary. It’s very powerful and I highly suggest watching it. There was so much about her illness and her life I didn’t know. There was also one particular moment that happened where I was in tears, scared. It was a heartbreaking moment. However, knowing all of that and then seeing her perform at the Olympics- it was truly amazing!
What I bought: I had to repurchase this linen button-down. They sent me the wrong size. The tag attached to the shirt said x-small, but it was really a medium. It’s annoying when that happens, but fixable. I just returned it and ordered a new one.

This weekend I am going out to dinner and drinks with a few friends. I am excited to be out and about in the city and to catch up with friends. Other than that I will continue to watch the Olympics, hopefully get a new book, and enjoy a beautiful summer weekend.
Have a wonderful weekend xo
